If I know what my child is going to do, but I give him an option anyway, does he have free will?

Let's say I give my son the choice between doing dishes tonight or playing Playstation tonight. I know that he will choose the Playstation over dishes. If he chooses the Playstation, does he no longer have free will? Seeing as I correctly predicted his decision, has he lost his free will?

Update:

There was no punishment. Many atheists claim that if you give someone a choice, but know what they are going to choose, they don't have free will. Punishments don't make a difference. If I told my child he could choose between the two, but that he would also be punished if he chose the Playstation, I don't see how he lost free will. He still had the free will to make the decision.

He didn't lose his free will because even though you predicted it, he still had the choice of the dishes. If you force him to play the playstation, then that's when he doesn't have free will because you forced him to do it without him having a say in it.

Free will doesn't mean being unpredictable, it means having the freedom to choose what you want to do. You gave your son free will by giving him a choice in the matter, you obviously would prefer that he did the dishes, but how can you make him without taking away his free will? I would suggest offering a reward for doing things like the dishes. Offer him an allowance if he helps around the house, that way he has the choice to accept this deal or not, and you maintain his free will.

he has free will. But if you were to say " Do the dishes and get cookies. Play playstation and get a spanking." Then no he doesn't have free will. This is what your supposed God does. He gives the choice to live life his way, or live it our own way. If we choose our own way, we go to Hell, don't not pass Go do not collect $200.

No, just because you can read his mind and know what he will pick doesn't mean he still doesn't freely have the choice.

That is what people misunderstand about God and freewill.

Yes, God knows what is in our thoughts and He knows what we will do, but for OUR understanding, we have the choice - we can do one thing or the other - we don't know until we are given the choice and we can pick whatever we want....just because someone can read our minds and know what we will pick, doesn't make the freewill denied....we still get to choose.

Fore knowledge is not necessarily control and is thus not a violation of free will.

You forgot to mention that if he doesn't do the dishes that you will torture him for eternity.
