Coordinates for the distance between two functions where the distance equals 12?
y(x) = 1/3x
y(x) = 1/2x
d = 12 between the two lines.
How do I figure out the coordinates of both functions where the distance is 12 horizontally between them.
I need a step-by-step please. Thank you.

Write the equations as:
y = (1/3)*x1
y = (1/2)*x2
Same y since we are given the horizontal distance and that means the same y for both.
You want to find when x2 - x1 = 12 or -12
x1 = 3*y and x2 = 2*y
x2 - x1 = 2*y - 3*y = -y = 12 (using positive 12)
So it looks like it happens when y = -12
x1 = 3*y = -36
x2 = 2*y = -24
If we use negative 12 we will get y = 12 and x1 = 36 and x2 = 24
