Besides being Christians we are also human beings and therefore subject to the emotions that humans have - and depression is one of them.
As with anything - as a Christian, and I hope by that you mean someone who has a personal relationship with Jesus, then you do have someone alongside you called The Holy Spirit who is a comforter, and will help you through this situation.
First of all you need to examine your relationship with Jesus. Are you 'in touch' with Him, by that I mean are you regularly reading the Bible and praying?
To maintain a positive Christian lifestyle it is important to do this - it's a bit like feeding a baby, if a parent doesn't then that baby won't survive. In the same way God has prepared food for His children and we have to be in a position to receive it.
Next ask yourself - are you depressed because you haven't done enough preparation and study for your English class subject? If so, then to be honest 'you've blown it' - but - admit it and make the necessary corrections.
Remember in Psalm 91 it tells us that if we make the Lord our dwelling place - that is the place where we take refuge and get strength from - then no evil will befall us - and - He will give His angels watchcare over us to protect us lest we harm ourselves.
Notice it doesn't say He will remove the obstacles from our path - especailly if we have created them ourselves - but He will help us overcome them.
So don't give up, switch on your praise tapes if you have any and sing along with them - be positive in acknowledging that God is your source of strenth and that he has 'not given you a spirit of fear, but of love and power and a sound mind'.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again - God Bless.

Why are you depressed? Is this something that's been going on for weeks or just a few days? It could be a case where you need a bar of chocolate and a good film.
At the moment you can't be bothered to do anything, but if this English work is important then not doing it will only make you feel worse. Sometimes getting an assignment out of the way boosts your mood on it's own. So do that, and then go home and flop for a while.

Depression can be caused due to many factors like
- A constant desire not getting fulfilled
- Loosing sight of what is important in life
- Loosing someone or something close
- other reasons
You can either try and find the reason and then take a course of action or you could do a few things that can help you feel better like
- Try to do fun activities with friends or family
- Try and help someone
- don't sleep during the day and do not sleep for more than 6-7 hours
Please understand that depression is the worst thing in the world and you deserve better than being a prey to it. God bless.

Who told you Christians don't suffer from depression? Are they some super human species or something?
Anyway, the best thing you can do right now is try your best to not focus on your depression. I know it may seem impossible, but just keep telling yourself it's only a few hours and then you'll be free to relax. If that doesn't work, you might have to take a short break and exercise or do something else so that you can relax yourself enough to redirect your focus on your homework afterward. If you have been suffering from this for a while you might want to seek counseling, but if it just happened recently you might just have a case of senioritis.

Uh... I'm no Christian but I kind of feel sad and disappointed of what you said because you sound like you're blaming your religion. I'm sorry if I'm the only who felt that way. Though, you did sound like that to me.
Christians, Jews, Hindus and others are also human, by the way. You will feel depressed if you let yourself feel that way. Of course, you can't be 24 hours happy go lucky and out of stress. Sometimes you will eventually feel depressed. There are days when you have to go through this things. It's how you go through it counts.
It's not because of your religion that you won't feel depressed. You don't feel depressed because you aren't stressing yourself. By what you wrote I'm pretty sure you're stressed right now. You know, God can't help you if you don't TRY to help yourself first.
Try meditating for awhile. Breathe in and get your mind straight. Bring yourself into focus again. Accept your problems with a smile and just RELAX. Do not worry too much. That's one of the reason of depression.

Hello Love123,
Christians can get depressed too. You are not less of God's child because you are depressed. I have suffered depression and it can be very hard to deal with on your own. Pray simple prayers, remember God loves you and he cares for you. Psalm 23 is sufficient prayer to let you know God is your good shepherd. Also get some help, praying that God would send you to the right place. See professionals who would listen to you, talk with you and guide you through difficult times and gain perspective on what is causing you sadness. Remember God can use the people around you, so speak up.
Remember:
God knows you by name and cares for you. (Isaiah 43:1-4, Nahum 1:7).
God's love can never be taken from you and he gives you peace (Isaiah 54:10)
God surrounds you, be rest assured in him (Psalm 125:2)
Listen to christian music. I find that it help me a lot and no matter how gloomy a day is, good music based on the bible reminds me God has not lost control of my life and I would be fine.
Remember Jer 29:11-14. Even as Jesus struggled to drink from the cup placed before him, yet he went to the cross to die knowing the end would be greater than the present situation he faced. Despite what you are going through, yet the plan and purpose of God for you would be fulfilled. You are loved.

in the words of one LDS prophet, go out and do some service to another , i think its very plain that when we have free time and dont use it, of course we will get depressed, if we use the time to give service to others, its almost a pure guarantee that depression will flee. IMO
however, if you watch the comedy show BeverlyHillbillies, "granny" said to do a hard days work. at the end of the day you will be too tired to complain.
if you read the book on SSRi's by Dr anne blake tracey, there are such things as diet that can help defend against depression.
you can always go the way of the world and go see a psychologist. and get antideppressant drugs.
jesus himself is described as a man of "many sorrows" in todays world he would be called a manic-depressant.
in some parts of scriptures, the cause of depression is often attributed to Sin.
if sin is the problem, then prayer and reading scriptures will help, forsaking the sin and asking for forgiveness, works as well. but not asking without sincerity.

Depression is mainly a medical condition. Treat it, and you will feel better.
My best treatment for depression: think and act positive. Rise above any negativity. Eat right, sleep right, and if you feel you brain being depressed, take a St. John's Wort for a day or two.
Stay away from clergy, and medical professionals. They will only screw your *** up.
EDIT: I did not see your edit wanting advice from a Christian. Sorry, I am not Christian, just experienced.
Have a nice day.

not a christian but we all get depressed at times you have to look at why you're depressed. If you can't think of a reason then you perhaps need to be more active get a new hobby or interest it will help you. Finally take each day as it comes tomorrow is a new beginning.

I'm an independent fundamental Baptist Christian. I have been battling depression on and off for years. Read on--It's not what God wants. God wants us to have joy in our heart. Everlasting joy. But satan wants to take it away and will use any means he can to do it. And sadly, we let him destroy SO much of our joy without us even realizing it until we're sad and depressed and wondering why.
If I am active in church AND reading my Bible every day, God gives me a joy that NO ONE can take away. No matter what! I find that when I do get depressed, I haven't been reading my Bible or going to church like I should. Unfortunately I haven't yet come to the point where I'm faithful in reading my Bible (by that I mean the King James version), even though I know the benefits of it. I do it for a while and then I start to slack off. It's something I am working on very hard. I'm not saying that bad things don't happen to us when we are going to church and reading our Bible, or that it doesn't hurt when bad things do happen. But God will give us so much strength to face the bad things and he helps them not to hurt so bad.
Matthew 7 talks about asking God for what you need, and that if you ask you will receive. That doesn't mean that God will solve all of our problems. But it does mean that He will give us the strength and the courage to face our problems and not give into depression because of them.
Matthew 11:28-30 says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. "
This verse has helped me numerous times. His burden is LIGHT--did you get that??? I would MUCH rather cast my cares upon him, and take HIS light burden, rather than trying to carry all my baggage around. Christ did not come here and die for us so that we would be depressed all of our lives. He died for us so that our sins would be washed away and we could have everlasting joy. All we have to do is seek Him and put our trust in Him.
