How long does it take to update your pc?
This is my first pc build and I am stressing out how long it takes to update.
I have been updating this thing for about 3 hrs and I'm pissed. So I tried to shut down now I'm stuck on that screen that says " please do not unplug machine installing 1 of 1 updates" and that's been going for about 30 mins.
Can someone tell me how long should it take to get all the updates finished?

depends on a lot of factors, but it will take you the best part of 5 hours to fully update if you have an old version of windows with no service pack, and maybe longer if you have a slow connection.
the best thing to do is update as your using it. keep checking for new updates after each install becasue new updates will become availible when you have installed certain updates, like service packs will be availible once all the updates are done that need to be done before it.
when shutting down and that updateing page comes up, just wait, once the PC is off, restart it because it will need to update again on startup which will take some time.
dont shut down if you are greeted with a black screen and seemingly nothing happening (even no HDD activity) just leave it and it will eventually load.

That all depends on which operating system you're installing...XP, Vista, 7? If you shut the computer down during a Windows Update, then you likely have corrupted the Windows Registry. That's why you get a message that tells you not to shut your computer down. It takes a long time unless you go to the Microsoft web site and get whatever service pack is the most recent for your os. You may have to start from the beginning and reformat the hard drive if it won't start correctly. It could take a couple of hours to install Vista SP2 alone. This can also depend on your internet connection speed. Good luck!

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com/
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
