Your wife is not even full term yet. Full term is 37 weeks. Your baby is still gaining weight and maturing.
I do not recommend that you try to stimulate labor. She still has a full five weeks of pregnancy to go! Let baby cook until she is ready to come out.
You will hear about castor oil, raspberry leaf tea, sex, spicy food...and the list goes on. Castor oil is NOT effective and will cause your wife to have diarrhea and stomach cramps. Not fun. Raspberry leaf tea will not induce labor, but will help increase the effectiveness of contractions once labor starts. Semen has a small amount of prostaglandins, which are responsible for softening the cervix. However, the amount is so small, researchers argue if it even really helps. Spicy food does nothing, but it helps pass the time by going out and trying exotic foods :- )
I am due next Sunday. I know how your wife feels. I want this baby out! But, he will come when he is ready, and I'm not going to try to rush him. You guys should do the same for your baby. Enjoy these last few weeks...it's a very special time in your lives.
Really, stay away from the castor oil. The most it will do is cause a few mild contractions, intestinal cramping, diarrhea, and the possibility of dehydration (something your wife and baby really do not need right now).
Source(s): I am an LPN, 38 weeks pregnant with #2 EDIT - Well, if she's 38 weeks then she only has a couple of weeks left! So, there's your silver lining. Pregnancy is almost over. Let baby come out when she's ready. - N and A's MommaLv 71 decade ago
First, there is no way to guarantee a baby's weight in the womb. We were told our first would be over 9 lbs. at birth. He came at 39 weeks weighing just a bit over 7 lbs. Secondly, while lungs MAY be developed it doesn't mean baby is fully ready. These last few weeks are vital for weight and growth.
If your baby were ready to be born now then she would be here. Simple as that. As it is your wife has 5 more weeks before her ESTIMATED due date. That means 5 more weeks to ensure your baby is as healthy as possible. Surely that trumps your desire for her to be here now, right?
In the end nothing induces labor aside from medical intervention. All these at home "methods" can aid labor along once it's been established but it will not force your wife's body to go into labor when it clearly is not ready.

First of all you're it's too early for your baby to arrive! Unless you had amniocentesis your Dr. won't know for sure that the lungs are mature. Also, this late in the game the weight can be off too.
I know how uncomfortable, tired, and fed up she is feeling right now. There are all sorts of tips and tricks to help women go into labor but the fact is, if her body isn't ready nothing will cause her to go into labor. Not even pitocin!
I wish you both the best of luck and that these last weeks produce a healthy and happy baby. Be sure to give her lots of support, food rubs, and whatever else she needs!

Sex reportedly induces labour. Nipple stimulation additionally encourages the uterus to agreement, however you could have acquired to do it for a number of mins at a time. As good, a few advise castor oil. If you're no longer secure being brought about, you'll be able to say no. Ask for checks to exhibit whether or not there are disorders with the placenta - that is the one rationale they must result in. It's real that there are dangers to induction, adding a bigger price of cesarean. Unless you're a minimum of two weeks past due, I might refuse it.

35 weeks is 2 weeks before full term. Nothing is going to help her go into labor. Don't touch the herbs or castor oil unless you want to risk extremely adverse effects to your baby.
Quit be selfish and just wait out the last 5 weeks. Baby will come when baby is ready.
ETA: Doctors won't change the date this late in pregnancy. Babies all grow differently after the first trimester. The baby will come when it comes.

There are several things that you can try including castor oil, and pressure points, plus many more. However, trying any of these things before 40 weeks is not something that should be done. For one thing, the doctor may say that the baby's lungs are fully developed, but it does not mean that her lungs are ready to handle the oxygen in the air outside of the womb. Babies come when their lungs are ready to handle the oxygen. Methods of induction will only work if both the mother and the baby are ready for labor; physically not just mentally. Also, keep in mind that 35 weeks is the babies estimated due date, not her physical due date. She could be born 2 weeks early, right on time, or 3 days late. Just remember that it is God's timing, and take these last few weeks to enjoy the time together as a couple. Go on dates to pass the time! Trust me, you will be very glad you did!

Let me get this straight. You're unsure of your baby's due date and weight yet you want to induce her anyhow for your own selfish reasons? Because, really, if there was a valid medical reason to induce, your doctor would. You're simply risking your baby's health for your own impatience. Some parents you'll be.

There's no sure fire way to get your wife to go into labor.
There are a bunch of old wives tales basically ... the ones you mentioned are popular.
The baby will come when it's ready.
Trying to get the baby to come before it's ready is dangerous to mom and baby.

I'd say you better wait until she is done cookin, most Dr.'s only let you go over by a week so.... ya got alot of time left
