What do you think of BLUBELL as a girls name?
**NOTE: I am NOT pregnant, and will not be looking to start a family for a least another few years. Also, PLEASE read the whole Q before answering, thanks :)
A very long time ago, I had Blue as a middle name for a girl on my own favourites list. I discarded it soon enough though, because it seemed a little too trendy for my tastes. But I do still like the sound and look of the name, and talking about it with my SO earlier I discovered that he really likes it too. We still thought it sounded a bit trendy, but then we came up with Bluebell which seems to fit into our list so nicely as there are a lot of other flower/nature names on it.
This is our list at the moment:
-- Viola Hazel Blair (nn Ivy)
-- Isobel Daphne Grace (nn Bel)
-- Rose Ivy Caroline [or possibly Primrose Ivy Caroline]
-- Olive Ruby Winter
**
-- Molly Eleanor June [or possibly Mary Eleanor June “Molly”]
-- Catherine Alice May (nn Kitty)
-- Emmeline Anna Lily (nn Emme)
We’re looking to slot Bluebell in where the asterisks are, between Olive and Molly. We’re thinking, for combinations, possibly Bluebell Regina Lucy, Bluebell Mary Isla, Bluebell Ottilie Clara or Bluebell Amélie Eve. We’re open to suggestions though!
Blue would definitely be used as a nickname, and Bluebell would NEVER be used in a sibset with Isobel.
Mainly, we’re just looking for your thoughts on Bluebell as a name. Do you think it’s too frilly or pretentious? Bearing in mind that we live in London, England, where names such as this are more openly used – for use of Bluebell, see the birth announcements here: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/births/announ...
Also, what are your thoughts on the spelling? Our preferred spelling is Bluebel, but as this isn’t the name of the actual flower we’re worried it might cause problems.
BTW: I'm fine with you all being perfectly honest and saying it's a dogs name, cows name etc :) But it would be nice if you could give a slightly more in depth view, just saying. TUs for all, as well. Any TDs are not from me.

. Maybe Molly Blue. But I hate Bluebell, however you spell it.

I find your names to be very elegant and classy, but I truly can not wrap my head around Bluebell. It reminds me of the Ice cream brand, which reminds me of the cow. I can't imagine it as a human's name. It's a pretty pretentious name, meaning no offense, and I don't think that the spelling Bluebel helps it.
Here in the U.S., Nevaeh is used openly - it was #34 in 2009 - but I would not recommend anyone naming their child that. I understand how you grow attached to certain names, despite what others might think. I still would love to use Shenandoah (on a girl) and Whitney on a boy, but I truly doubt I will. Also, since Bluebel and Isobel would not be used in the same sibset, why hinder Isobel from being used? Isobel is a terrific name!
I might suggest, should you really truly feel that you want to use it, use Bluebell as a nickname. I do not feel that Blue is as trendy as you might think. Perhaps use Blue as one of the middle names for Isobel. How about Isobel Daphne Blue?
I also want to say that the middle name combinations that you have for Bluebell are very nice. It's simply the name Bluebell that I suggest you don't use.

Miscellaneous Suggestions:
Magnolia
Albarosa
Rosalba
Dahlia
Amabel
Anabel
Amity
Verity
Aveline "ah veh LEEN"
(I find Catherine and Emmeline to be too long to go with your other names.)
Alice Catherine Maeve
Emma Lily Cathleen
Alice Verity Claire
Maeve Ottilie Eve... or Maeve Claudia Eve? (that short "o" sound it what I'm looking for)

I agree with you. I don't mind if someone likes or hates a name. It's the WHY that's important. Detail is the most important aspect of an answer.

I am so sorry but I agree with the others. The first association that came to mind was a cow, before I even read the answers or additional details. If you named a child that I am afraid that she would be teased by other children in school. If you really love it, perhaps you could use it as a middle name or nickname. Ottilie Bluebell, or Amélie Bluebell would be the most tolerable names to the ear.

I like all the other names but Bluebel just doesn't fit anywhere if you have all those names like that. I would never ever use it as a first name because its just not some name I would use for a girl. I could understand it as a nickname but to use it professionally no. I perfer the spelling Bluebelle and would call her Belle for short if it was used as her first name but I can't see someone doing that to their child.

I love names which have a bit of imagination and character behind them but Bluebell isn't one I particularly like. Geri Halliwell's daughter springs to mind though - I think she called her Bluebell Madonna. Also Cher's son is Elijah Blue. If you like flowery names I think something like Molly Primrose or Emmerson Rose would be nice. Molly Rose is lovely too.

I would never do that to a child. The best name you have there is Molly. Maybe Molly Blue. But I hate Bluebell, however you spell it.

I really do like the concept, but Bluebell doesn't seem like a nice name to me. Maybe as a middle name.
