Can I use my AV / R cable on my Sony Handycam to bring external audio into the camera?

Basically, I'm going flying tomorrow (general aviation) - and I have an audio cable which has two component cables (the two audio cables) which hook up to the two audio cables on the sony handcam and subsequently hook up to the AV / R on the Sony Handycam.

My question: Can you use these cables to transport audio INTO the camera, not OUT OF the camera?

Thank you!!

Paladin is right - but incomplete.

"Handycam" is Sony's generic name for all their consumer camcorders. Since you did not tell us which model Handycam you are using, we have no way to know if it is capable of accepting/recording an external audio source. The cable used might matter (because of the connector the camcorder), but where the port on the camcorder can take the inbound audio is the issue.

To get the audio onto your video, you need to use a Mic Jack. An AV/R port is for video and audio out only. If you plug a sound source into there, lord knows what damage you will be doing, but you will not have the audio you thought were you going to get if hooked through an AV/R port.
