Is it illegal to remove a passtime device from a vehicle in Kansas?
I just purchased a used vehicle from one of those "buy here, pay here" places, and it came fully loaded with a passtime device. Basically it is a device that allows the dealership to render the vehicle inoperable if I do not make my payments on time. It forces me to wait for the device to engage and I plan on makeing every payment in accordance with my contract, I just find it annoying. (And kinda uncool when I have to explain to my passengers why my car makes these annoying beeps and delays before ignition.) I have a pretty good understanding on how to bypass the device in a few seconds, thats not the problem. I need to know if I will be in violation of Kansas State Law, or if it is just simply a breech of the contract between the dealership and myself.
I know some states protect the dealer as far as these devices go, since technically they still owe the vehicle until it is paid in full. I just cannot seem to find any information on this as far as Kansas or Missouri Law goes.

It would be a breach of contract and the dealer would know by doing a readout on it, the dealer could then void the sale and take possession of the vehicle but there are not any laws requiring it.}{

I'm not a lawyer and not really familiar with these devices, but it would be my guess that since you bought the car, you're entitled to remove or add any such device you want.
A word of warning though, I would guess that these places do modifications such that it's not easy to remove the device and still have the car work okay, as that would kind of defeat the purpose of them.
