Why do people oppose expansion and a world government?

This is just a question and I do not have a decided opinion on it as of yet, but I wonder some arguments against it. I don't really see the point in having almost 200 divided nations that bicker constantly over everything that you can think of. We are divided in thought, divided in direction, and divided in progress. There is a lot to work out to make an actual one world government effective, but it seems as if it could benefit humanity in the whole. You wouldn't likely have a risk of nuclear destruction of the world as they would be under the authority of checks and balances of one government, if anything separatist could get their hands on one or two but not enough to destroy the world like the thread we are on now. That is just one of many examples that would be beneficial. I will keep this short by ending with, United We Stand, Divided We Fall.

Update:

To comment on a few of these answers I would like to say that there are many political, economical, and military checks and balances that could be implemented. I am pretty well educated in politics and how countries are ran so I may be able to think of solutions a little better than some, but I believe there is a possibility. I really rather not argue my case on here any more as I am mostly wondering on the majority of arguments against it, and please answer on these additional details as well.

Because first off that's what the New World Order wants and is initiating as we speak. It creates Fascism and monopolies of corporations. It would put many things under one rule or ruler or entity, like the Illuminati wants. It would only benefit the rich and not the common folks. This is all being implemented now and it will become exactly that in the future. Also this has been foretold in the Bible. One ruler for the whole world and he is the deceiver or in other words, Satan. All the people of the world, most anyhow, will succumb to this exact dictatorship because he will seem to have all the answers to all the problems and the people will believe his lies. I however will NOT be one of them and am always looking for this type of person or it could be an entity or group of people.

I reject ANY government, yet no longer inevitably a "New international Order". government is inherently evil and a contravention of rights because it relies upon, and has a monopoly on, using coercion and violence against the nonviolent to enforce this is edicts. government only knows tension as a answer. it is barbaric, uncivilized, and a next detriment to the shape of our species. the final element we want is a international government. in spite of the shown fact that, a clean international Order does not inevitably recommend worldwide governance. Globalism is the organic inevitable direction of human evolution. The greater we populate, the greater technologically stepped forward we replace into, the greater interdependent we replace into, ...the smaller the international gets. a clean international Order will ensue. yet who says it must be ruled? I venture, that throughout some unspecified time interior the destiny, no remember if or no longer there is ever worldwide government, mankind could have stepped forward previous the will for governance. Then, if there is worldwide governance, this is going to provide thank you to a diverse international order... Who cares if nations bicker about useless ideas? What matters is the quality of life and freedom that citizens have within the nations they inhabit.

If you have only one government for the whole world, the opportunity for corruption will be endless. At least now, if you don't like your sovereign state you can leave and find another.
