I think it's actually bullshit that people think this if you want to be sexually active that's your choice and you can have sex with as many people as you want...I personally think that guys that have loads of sex are probably dbags and massive tools.

I know this is unattractive to you but not every guy is made of steal, and having to inter vein every time you are being harassed or stalked by some nut you met somewhere for a fling is an unwanted problem to us. Most men covet intelligent women. Yeah there is a double standard, but women because they can get pregnant usually have had to be more responsible then men. It's true that in the present we have birth control and that single mothers can survive on their own, but in the past it wasn't like this. Women needed the support of a man to raise the child, and if she slept around, it was harder for her to find our who the baby daddy was (see: Maury Povich show).

That's why society tended to look down on women who slept around. Nobody wanted bastards running around society. Feminism was only around for like 50 to 60 years. Traditional gender roles were around for ages! Some things have become instinctive, like women telling her partner "Oh the baby looks just like you! He has your eyes!" after the kid is first born. This was her subtle (but maybe not truthful) reassurance to her partner that the baby was his.

Come on, most women under say 40 these days have had sex with lots of partners, it just that some women don't admit to it, like the guys do.

The short answer is that in the past, that type of behavior would have devastating social consequences from the destruction of families, confusion of how to distribute property to heirs and venereal disease.

In other words, many women can be asymptomatic carriers of venereal diseases and if it was unclear which man was the father of her children, that child may not be accepted into the family or be the rightful heir to its wealth.

Most of this doesn't matter as much today, but it the vestigial reason why male and female promiscuity are viewed so differently.

That's a global perspective on relationship and sex....You can't change it, but you could change those people that you hang out with. Honestly, it really goes both ways. Good girls would feel disgusted of guys that sleep around with random girls, too. One more thing, many women out there feel that it's embarrassing if they've only slept with 3 or 4 people in their lives (until they get married).

Because it doesn't require much effort or skill for a women to find someone to have sex with- even ugly women can do it.

A man who isn't drop dead georgous needs to make up for it by working out and having a good body, he has to being charming/sweet/funny he has to pay for flowers/chocolates/drinks to further charm her etc etc. But all a woman has to do is wear make-up and open her legs.

Because it doesn't require any kind of effort. A man will always respect a woman who is ABLE to have many sexual partners, but has the virtues not to. Men have to make an effort to have that many sexual partners. If you're that easy, it takes the spark away.

A "double standard" is the idea that some thing is acceptable when a woman does it.... but not when a man does it - or vice versa.
