Lakers clinched the Pacific division so are they locked into the #2 seed?

Now that the Lakers have clinched their division, does this mean they automatically get the #2 seed even if they finish the season with more losses than the Dallas Mavericks? I'm under the impression that, in that scenario, if the Lakers face the Mavs in the Playoffs, they'd have the #2 seed but not have home-court advantage against the Mavs in that series.

I might be completely mistaken here but is there any truth to this?

Or, does this only apply if the Lakers and Mavs finish tied (b/c regular season head-to-head match-ups usually decide that)? I've heard winning your division gives your team a guaranteed seed in the Playoffs. Does it give more value besides that?

Update:

With the "regular season head-to-head match-ups", I mean that if two teams finish with the same win-count, the winner of their head-to-head games decides who gets the better seed.

Cool, thanks!! So, technically a higher-seeded team could not have home-court advantage against a lower-seeded team : /

    Winning your division gets you into the play offs and no lower than the 4 seed. Home court however is still decided first by record so if the 5 seed has a better record than the 4 seed division winner than the 5 gets home court.

    What up brownboy,

    Right now the Lakers have put themselves in position to maintain that #2 spot. Being a division leader guarantees them a 4th spot. Homecourt Advantage will be based on record. In the case that the Lakers and Mavs have the same record- the first tie breaker would their head-to-head record versus one another, followed by their record against the division i believe.

    The Lakers and Mavs have one more game against one another and that will be a crucial game for the Lakers to win. The Lakers currently hold a one game lead and have more home games than road games- they have the advantage but cannot afford any unnecessary losses and have to keep winning at the same pace the Mavs are. It's a race that may come down to the last game of the season.

    The seedings go by record,The Lakers have 9 home games and 4 west coast road games left!That should help them get the #2 seed behind the Spurs throughout the playoffs!

    They have a home game against the Mavs ,They will be up for that game!

    No, if the Lakers lose more games than the Mavs by the end of the season the mavs will have the higher seed.

    I think if you're the division leader you're only guaranteed to have the 4th spot.
