What you do is you make a triangle and use soh cah toa. Where the hypotenuse is the 39m/s and the angle that you use soh cah toa with is the 35 degrees and then the legs of the triangle is the x and y or vertical and horizontal parts of the direction the golf ball is traveling.

If the angle of projection is 35 degrees then

    Vertical component = 39 sin 35 = 22.37 m/s

    Horizontal component = 39 cos 35 = 31.95 m/s

    The required answers are:

    horizontal component of velocity = 39*cos 35 = 31.9 m/s

    vertical component of velocity = 39*sin 35 = 22.4 m/s
