Yes, or perhaps we helped Them win World War 1. It depends upon your point of view, since the USA did not enter WW1 until 1917.

Canada was not a part of the British Empire during the First World War.
Canada was a part of the British Commonwealth of equal nations during that war.
Because Canada did not have a self-governed military, Canada entered the war as part of the British forces.
Otherwise the answer is 'Yes' but you will have to go through the answers of others for Absolute Accuracy.
There are many even in the twenty-first century who have yet to read the very stale news of the death of the British Empire.

Yes.
When Britain declared war, its dominions (like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa) were automatically part of the war. They were legal entities of the Crown.
Even beyond the legal issue, there was a natural alignment of people in the Empire with Britain. A large part of the populations in Canada, Newfoundland, Australia, and New Zealand were either born in Britain, or had parents that were. For many of these people, Britain was their country, and it was natural for them to want to participate.
In places like India and South Africa, where British populations were minorities, the British were still able to whip up armies from among the locals. Many of these people did it for money or in the hope that they would gain greater political rights after the war.
In total, I think the colonies/dominions accounted for about a tenth of the overall fighting strength of the British Empire in WW1.

Yes.
They enlisted in great numbers. & in many examples got dropped in it from a great height by poor (British) generalship: Gallipoli, Crete, Tobruk, Singapore, Dieppe....... but nonetheless the Anzacs, Canadians, Indians, South Africans and all others gave sterling service in Britains dark days. And all because of some (distant) shared ancestry. Amazing. I am British, I feel it says something about my national character that these people in the past did what they did for the reasons that they did, and I admit it makes me proud. Thankyou my Commonwealth pals, past & present. We will remember them.
Hope this helps :] x

Yes of course it did. To say any different would belittle our colonial supporters. They fought and died alongside our own nationals and their contribution was inestimable. The same applied in the second world war.
