Strangey oil pressure problem?

My brother has an 1988 Volkswagen Polo decoration project car, but unfortunately we have run across strange oil pressure problem. The car is old, so no manual, which sucks. But anyway, here's what happens:

-Car starts and drives perfectly normal, when the engine is cold.

-Then the engine heats up to the desired "normal" temperature, temperature gauge rises to center.

-Then the oil pressure warning light lights up, stays lit up, AND makes this really loud and annoying sound, all the time.

-That is, until you shift gear to neutral (stick shift) and rev the engine a little, not much, just a quick press on gas pedal. Also if I shift gear to smaller and rev a little it has the same effect.

-At which point the warning light and sound disappears, only to come back in 10-15 seconds (I counted)

-And this whole process continues as long as I drive, warning light and sound and then revving.

-Only when the car has sit overnight you can again drive a good half an hour before the wicked cycle begins.

Any ideas people? I'm baffled! The car is eventually gonna go to our sister, hence the decal work, but I'd really like to repair this problem before giving it to her. She doesn't know **** about cars.

    VW has two oil pressure sensors,there location varies,most are on the oil filter housing and sometimes the other is on the cylinder head,one or both have failed,I would suggest you replace both.Get them from Volkswagen because they work off different pressures,ie: one measures 2.5lbs of pressure at the filter housing the one in the head will measure more or less pressure anyway they call it dynamic oil pressure.Lots of problems even for VW techs,also has a control board attached to the speedo head this sometimes causes the problem,or it could be the fuse box,it seems that they all have a windshield leak and it usually leaks right onto the fuse panel.

    I know it sounds like a lot of babble but I have done lots of these there are lots of possibilities to cure the problem,I sincerely hope some of this is helpful

    Mileage on the car? Sounds like your oil pump is worn and not putting out the correct pressure once the engine warms up and the oil thins out. Revving the engine increases oil pressure enough to cause the lifter? noise and light to go away. You might also have some sludge buildup in the upper engine which is not allowing the oil to return to the pan properly. Check the oil level when the engine is cold and then check it again when the engine warms up at idle. You could do an oil change and switch to a heavier grade oil like 15 W-40 which won't thin as much when warm but that may cause oiling issues or hard starting when starting in very cold weather... see if that helps but the only good way to solve it is to replace the pump and check the valve/cam area for sludge/blockage.

    could definately be answer above but, are you sure you have the correct weight of oil in it "no manual" also if you do you could have a partially stuck open oil pressure relief valve and when the oil gets hot "thinner" then too much could be bypassing and turning on the light if the oil pressure sensor is in the oil filter housing gauging the pressure in the system going thru the filter....good luck.

    When it is warm and you check the Oil Pressure Manually (With a Gage) is it normal? At least 15 to 20 Psi? [Normal=Sending, Low=Oil Pump]

    i might have reported it must be the stress change with the exception of the rattle. the two mutually point out that it is not build up stress dazzling. that is obtainable that the replace oil is basically too thick, in actuality, not too skinny. it would in actuality be the oil pump that is going homestead. you should do with somebody putting a perfect stress gauge on it to ensure what's unquestionably going on. lower back to the storage and demand on seeing them do the tests.
