I remember reading a story where a character was turned to stone for looking at one of the female gods. Does anyone know who this character was and which God they saw?

I think your talking about Artemis she turn a man into a animal because he saw her bathing, either that or you taking about medusa she wasn't a god.

There were several, and it was Medusa. A guy finally took a mirror/shield, and made her look at herself, turning her in to stone. Then using her glare as a weapon itself. She was one of three Gorgon sisters.

That was Medusa... a gorgon. She was cursed and had snakes for hair and poison blood and when you looked at her you turned to stone.
