Perm or colour hair first?

I want to recolour my hair and perm some curls in, which product would be best first? Should I wait inbetween?

Hi! I'm Julie from Pantene. Our company also produces Clairol Home Colourants. I would definitely recommend you colour your hair first. Perming will cause your hair to become more porous and therefore it could drastically affect the colour result. It means that your hair would take the colour quickly and would lose it quickly as well.

If you happened to perm your hair first, here is what you should do before you recolour it: Shampoo and condition your hair twice after perming to help normalise its porosity. If you use permanent hair dye, a minimum of one week is recommended between perming and colouring. You might also use a lighter shade than the one you usually choose due to the increased colour uptake.

Whether you perm your hair before or after colouring, remember to do a strand test to make sure you get the results you want. And that's even more important if you perm it first as like I said your hair will be more porous.

    Hope this helps!

The chemicals used in perming solutions can affect the colour of your hair, so it would be better to perm first and colour after.

Personally, I'd give it a little time to rest between the two treatments - maybe another shampoo time.

well i'd perm first and dye it. but seriously it's better to let your hair rest after doing one of them. i had my hair permanently straightened and dyed about two days later. and i have split ends EVERYWHERE and before i did this, i had the most healthy hair :(( so try not doing them at the same time

Either one u do first u have to give the hair a rest I wouldn't do either one urselfgo seek a hairstylist to help u. U will feel much more secure about ur turning out right! Also hair dye from stores walmart ect. Contain harmful chemicals!!!
