Why would a guy avoid this subject?
Why would a guy avoid/ignore discussing the issue of domestic violence/wife beating? Why would he not just give a straight answer or give some sort of indication that he condemns it?
I just don't get it....

Maybe he is a victim of it or lived in a house where it occurred and prefers to just stay away from the whole issue.

Ok these are possible answers
1) He feels guilt about past wife beating
2) He feels that this is sexism and too many women brand men as wife beaters unjustly
3) Its not the topic he is ignoring, he was just ignoring you for some other reason
4) He feels that wife beating is okay ( even if he is wrong ( and im a guy)) and is avoiding the topic because he knows others feel differently.
5) He feels that some aspects of wife beating are okay, such as the reasons behind it, but doesnt agree with the wife beating itself, and knows that saying this will cause conflict.

TBH, its not a touchy subject, if he is a Domestic Violater then hes probibly stray away frmom the question or LIE.
Most peeps would jsut be like "Its an old thing, not modern... its also kinda illegal"
i mean there are peeps who are like "Do it or i whak you" but thats a select few
