A few questions about earthquakes....?

Did the tsunami and failed nuclear reactors do more harm than the quake itself or was it actually the quake.

Also, im considering going to college in a region that is expecting a "mega quake" in the next 50 years (Seattle area), what exactly is a mega quake and would it be reasonable to not move there because of this risk or is it over hyped?

I've been in two earthquakes in my life and they were like magnitude 3 and i slept through them, so this whole idea is really weird to me.

Update:

oh in japan for the first question obviously

Yes, the tsunami caused most of the damage than the earthquake itself. The nuclear reactors WILL cause lots of problems soon (e.g. now the water is contaminated in Japan).

I can't give you any tips about moving to Seattle as I don't live there so am not sure about the risks. :(
