turning someone into a horse registery for fraud??
I had a thoroughbred that I traded for two mares. This lady talked me up to thinking she is the horse trainer who takes her time with horses, doesn't train them before their fully developed, natural horsemanship ect. The two mares I had gotten hadn't ever been touched by people. (She had family issues supposedly and got stuck with these two by accident and couldn't afford two, so she traded me for my one horse) I hung on every word this women had to say. She has some beautiful horses out with these two mares and they seemed very well cared for. The only horses i've owned I got from people I knew and truses. This was my first time with a stranger. Part of our deal was that I would be informed on my thoroughbred's progress with her, I would be notified and given the future owners information so I could keep up with him. I wanted the best for him. ( he was too much for me.) He wasn't hard to ride or anything, just hard to mantain. ( he had leg and weight issues) These people promised me they would get him to a healthy weight and have his leg worked on by professionals/vet.....................non of this ever happened!!!!!!
the two mares are a year younger than what their papers say, instead of turning four his year, their turning 3 according to my vet. I ask about him and I get ignored or told that he was sold. end of story. SHE ONLY HAD HIM A WEEK BEFORE HE GOT SOLD!!!!!!! she didn't and wont give me their information. She was dead set on having his registeration papers and now want nothing to do with them. I have no idea where he went or what happened to him. According to my vet everything on their papers is a lie from their age to their breed to their bloodlines. Now I'm assuming he's right, he is the vet after all. I had my farrier out yesterday to trim the mares feet and I was asking him his opinion on this ( he is a really good guy) He just looked kinda sad and said "look, I see this a lot. It sounds like she might have sold him to slaughter and didn't want you knowing. why else would she not tell you about where he is?) I got extrememly upset. I wish their was something I could do. He suggested I turn her into the registery and get her in trouble for forging these two mares age and breed. I know I shouldn't be as upset as I probably sound. I know that this was my choice and that I shoulnd't of trusted this lady as much as I had. (lesson learned) I just can't get over thinking but him being sent to slaughter. He was a beautiful horse, with a good personality and I feel like I gave him a death sentence. I was just wanting the best I could find for him, I thought it was her, but I was wrong. Should I turn her in? if so How do I go about this?
please no rude answers. I feel guilty enough as it is about the situation I put myself in. As horrible as I feel I smile when I see my girls, cause inside I feel as though I saved them from this lady. Thank you for your time. I appreciate your answers.
First poster- sorry I forgot your SN when I went to write this to you. Thank you for your answer.
Horse girl (girl after Judy) and Judy and the beast- I have no Idea, i'm not the vet, but I pay him good money, he is good with my horses and he does his job, so I'm assuming that the 12 years it took him to become a vet came in real handy when asking him questions about my horses DUH!!!! I"m assuming he knows more than I do since he is the one who went to school and studied not only become a vet, but also studied horse breeds, blood lines ect (or so he says)
HQ lover- thank you for your answer. I appreciate knowing i'm not alone in this situation. Im sorry for your horse. I know how this feels. I have thought about doing blood tests, but it's a loss cause at this point. I know I'd never find him, and as for the girls, if the papers are truly a lie their would be no way to link them to any one horse. It's the lack of closure that bugs me. I think everyone reading this could understan
* understand the guilt and feeling of loss.
Maiko- thank you for your aswer and generosity.
HQ lover here is his infomation. If anyone knows anything about this horse, please let me know.
Jockey Club No. 9929406
Dark brown bay
Foaled May 20th, 1999 by La Saboteur out of Knights Song by Knights Choice issued to Eugen Hammersmith, bred by Eugen Hammersmith foaled in Leavenworth Washington. Thank you again for your answers.
Fox hunter: I checked their teeth after he did and he was right. They had just started losing their two front teeth. (like what you described) so I know he is right on that one. You may not have met very good vets but my vet is about to hit retirement. He has been around me and my horses since i was a kid and not once has he given me false information that would harm me or my animals. He is a very smart man, I'm sorry you have not been so lucky as to have met very smart vets. lol That was not meant to be rude to you.
Horse lover i was not being rude to you, I was being realistic I"m sorry you are such a sensative being. I'm sorry you felt that way.

I am so sorry:(. This sucks. There are some terrible people in the world.
I'm not totally sure on this, but I would contact the registery and explain your vet's findings. Don't tell them that this is in retaliation because they won't take you seriously. They will probably need a few vet opinions and a DNA sample from each mare. Hopefully something turns up. Hang on to any paperwork you have from her.
I'm so sorry about your horse. We were in the same situation a few years ago. We bred and sold a beautiful tb colt to a great racing stable. He was doing great. He got second on his first race and broke his maiden the second race. Unfortunately, he cracked a sesmoid when he misstepped in the winner's circle (ironic right?). He had surgery and was rehabed and came back to race a year later, but he wasn't the same horse. Although he was sound, he wasn't winning. He went between a few more racing stables before he dropped off the map. The best we can find out is that he went to live with a family in North Dakota. We have no way of verifying this, which concerns me. And North Dakota is pretty close to Canada. We fear that he was sent to slaughter, but in my mind, he lives in North Dakota with a loving family.

I go with Judy in that he is unlikely to have gone for slaughter because she would have lost money on him and I personally think that when she took him on she already had a customer lined up for him.
As for the rest your vet cannot say for certain what breed the horses are, each breed has many variables, look at the difference in TBs some are small and stocky, others long and lean, yet they are all TBs.
I am sorry but vets are not mini gods, yes, they go to school to learn about animals and the treatments of them but, they do not spend much time on learning about ageing a horse or, animal behaviour leave out them being taught about breeds or feeing of each animal. Ask a vet the golden rules of feeding a horse and they are very unlikely to be able to tell you.
I have known more than one vet state that a horse is 4 years when it is only two.
If you look at your horses front teeth then telling whether it is three or four is easy. There are six teeth top and bottom. At two and a half years the front middle teeth (centrals) will change from milk teeth to permanents , at three and a half the laterals will change and at four and a half the corner teeth will change. There is a significant difference between milk and permanent teeth so you should be easily able to see. Each tooth takes about six months to come into wear so if your horse is has only the front permanent teeth in wear and the others are still milk teeth then it is only three. If the laterals have come out then it will be four this year.
As for knowing where your other horse has been sold to there was no written contract so there is nothing you can do other than advertise to ask who has bought him. You cannot get any registry to do anything about this woman because she has done nothing wrong legally. You could get in touch with the registry to see is the new owners have changed his papers to their name, they might tell you if they have.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. While most people who buy/train/sell horses are very ethical and can be trusted, there are a few like this person who ruin it for everyone else.
Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do at this point. I don't see any legal avenue and I'm not sure what horse association would take this on.
The best I can say is that everyone here who loves horses and hopes to have one some day should read this letter and then cut it out and put it with all your other horse stuff so that you will always double check everything a seller tells you, including having a pre-purchase vet check AND GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!
Again, I'm sorry this had to happen to you.

This is sad that this had to happen to you. You are not the only one who has been the victim of fraud. It happens to good, smart people every day. You are not alone. I would certainly pursue the legal end of it if you can. Report her and do what you must do to make sure she does not do this to someone else!
As for the horse you lost, it is understandable that you feel bad about this but also look at things from another angle. Why would she trade TWO perfectly healthy horses for one she plans to slaughter? It doesn't make sense. Selling for a higher price to someone who doesn't know better would probably be more profitable. If she needed the money that bad there are many unhealthy animals that people just give away. She could have just as easily doctored up more paperwork and sold him to someone and is covering up her lie.
Whatever happened to him is not your concern now. Good, sweet, healthy horses get slaughtered every day...BUT more often than not, if the horse is truly of value it is saved. Truth be told a lot of fraud exists in the world of slaughter houses! Why slaughter a horse you can sell? If the horse is more valuable alive than dead there are alternatives. People in the trade want to make money. All you can hope for is that his training, disposition and looks are worth more to someone than his hide and tallow. You can care and feel bad but at this point things are not in your control.
What you DO have now is wisdom. Never take anyone at face value when money is involved! This is a hard way to learn a lesson but at least you didn't totally lose out. You have two horses now! They might not be trained yet but that can be done. They are also probably much younger and more healthy than your previous horse.
You probably did also save these horses, if not for you they could have ended up being sold to some idiot or worse! A trained horse always has a much better chance of being sold than an untrained one. 3 year old horses who have not been handled properly are not worth much! Look at it this way, you might have saved TWO horses from slaughter! Either way just try to be thankful and know there are some very bad people in the world! Be glad this situation was not worse. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
Source(s): When I was a child my friend's parents bought her what they THOUGHT was a 9 year old gelding "show" pony for a really high price...It was actually a 3 year old pony stallion! The people supposedly "moved" and were never heard from again. The pony was gorgeous but once they got him home, he was TOO much of a handful for my 7 year old friend at the time. He also was NOT a show pony and had fake papers. He was just a pretty black pony raised by some backyard breeder! She was able to ride him but he spooked a lot and was not good outside the arena. They had him gelded and tried to train him but eventually they had to sell him and get her a calmer pony. Her parents honestly didn't know any better and did not have an expert there to help....Like I said, there are bad people in the world! - How do you think about the answers? If she had two horse why would she trade you one for slaughter purposes? Did your horse weigh more than both the mares combined. I wouldn't worry about a useful TB that was too much for you being sold to slaughter. I'd worry more about a young unbroke big bodied horse. If she so much wanted his papers, he wasn't going to the slaughter plant with them. I would stop worrying about him as he is gone to a new owner with his papers.
Worry about improving your horsemanship so you can be a good owner to the two you are now responsible for so they don't end up being a source of your worries in the future.

How does your vet know this information? Before you go around pointing fingers at people because you are understandably upset about your horse, you MUST figure this out. Ignore the gossip, face the facts.
Unless you had a real written and signed deal explaining all that, chances are, you're out of luck. However, people on YA! might be able to look around on pedigree, sales, and news sights to see if any info can be found about him. I know I'd look if you could give me registered name, breed, age, sex, location, estimated price value sold for, etc.
Sorry about your horse, good luck!
EDIT: I'm sorry, but that was uncalled for. I OFFERED to HELP LOOK ONLINE FOR HIM. I understand that I probably wouldn't find him, but I WANTED TO OFFER YOU WHAT I COULD. That was very rude.
Your vet can only give you a GUESS. I'm assuming he used her teeth, because by the time she is 3-4 she has stopped growing, so that gives away little about her age. And besides, teeth can give us an idea about a horses age, such as 3 yrs vs. 13yrs, but a one year difference? IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT. Horses get their permanent second incisors at about 3 1/2 years old, so he probably used those BUT THIS VARIES GREATLY, just like it does in humans.
You see, this is EXACTLY what I what I was talking about! You just ASSUME your vet has his reasons, but never inquire about them? Please, I'm sorry about your horse, but don't report this woman. The breed registries aren't morons, and they know what they are looking for more than your vet does when it comes to their breeds. Plus, a one year difference really is impossible to tell apart through teeth. LISTEN TO LOGIC.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude but this is very aggravating.

you will locate an all around horse, ny daughter makes use of her horse for barrels during the winter and trails during the summer time. It keeps the pony grounded he's not warm in any respect and does o.k. in the two skills.
