Since Youtube is becoming a very large corporation, it needs money to support the website otherwise users will eventually have to pay to use it. So as an alternative, Youtube introduced advertisements, where they would get paid by companies to preview their commercials. Vevo is very much like those companies however they pay Youtube much more to basically become the official music video database of the website. So this benefits Vevo, as people are viewing their content (all while having the permission from the respected artists so they are not infringing copyright) as well as the same people becoming familiar with their own site. As a result, Youtube earns money from Vevo for allowing them to become a big part of their corporation and therefore can remain a free, popular and easily accessible website for video viewing.
