Our taxes no longer cover social necessities and yet they keep going up. Makes you wonder what we are paying for

It may very well affect your credit, but there's a possible solution. My wife has worked in the medical field for almost 25 years, and has spent most of that time in medical billing. She says that all they want is for the patient to take responsibility. Call the contact number on the bill and ask for a payment plan. You'd be surprised at how little per month could satisfy them. Start with a number you think is ridiculous like $5 per month. If they don't accept that, I bet they'll take $10.
If they're not willing to accept a payment plan, ask to speak to the billing manager, or call back later and get someone else.

what you might be able to do is call them and tell them you can't pay it all at once but would like to set up a payment plan. I had a chiropractic bill that ran up to about $300. I was able to pay 40 dollars a week until it was paid off. They just want to know that you're making an effort to pay it.

WHO called the paramedics? The person who makes the call is the one responsible for the bill unless you volunteered to be taken by them to the hospital or you volunteered for them to perform a service for you.
If you called 911, then you have to pay. If you told someone to call 911, then you have to pay. If they were just following the cop car (as they do when they hear of an accident), then you don't have to pay unless you agreed to whatever service they wanted to provide you or you were facing life threatening circumstances.

Call them and work out a payment plan. It can affect your credit, definitely. Don't know if they would sue, but they will send it to a collector who would likely start harassing you.

You can use credit, but if you can't afford it, then I'd recommend not buying it.
Hope this helps!
