Ford motor company calls for 5W-30 motor oil for your Expedition regardless of engine and year round use. If your motor doesn't have any small leaks there's no sense spending money on high mileage oil. Your local Ford dealer's service rep. will second these two facts.
Personally I wouldn't be caught dead spending money with the BP oil company who makes Castrol.

5W-30 is probably the recommended oil but in reality any oil that would normally be used in a car will be fine. Unless you owned the car since new you have no idea how the car was maintained and what oil was used before. So to me it's foolish to get all worried about the oil I should be using at this point. Just maintain with regular oil/filter changes and you'll be fine.

5W30 is standard Ford oil for all its models excepting special racing or advanced cars.
any Ford dealer will be happy to confirm and provide correct oil. Don't be pushed into buying a fully synthetic oil at three times the price as it simply isn't going to offer any better protection for any standard car.
you owners manual will also confirm the correct viscosity of oil and Ford currently recommend castrol oils.

My 2003 5.4 L Expedition oil cap and owner's manual says 5W-20 and that's all I have put in it for 260,000 miles. Also the owner's manual says synthetic blend. But I was looking here to decide to go to 5W-30 to match my other cars. Texas truck.

in the event that they're the two intense mileage, i might use 10/40, in any different case 10/30 will paintings in simple terms advantageous....you may even upload STP to the older one. the great element is do not use Pennzoil or Quakerstate, they have lot of ash that builds up on factors...you decide on for a low ash oil like Castrol.
