Action of a guitar after restringing?

Is it possible that after restringing an acoustic guitar, the action becomes higher? I just got new strings on mine and i've noticed it's harder to play barre chords on it.

Any ideas? Or is it just in my head?

Well if you got thicker gauge strings they will pull the neck more and make the action higher. Or if the guitar was tuned very flat and now its in standard tuning, I guess that would make a slight difference.
