Guinea pig bedding options?
I need help making a decision. My husband put together a really large cage for our 4 guinea pigs, the bottom section has 2 females and the top section has 2 males. We put 4" high plexi glass all around the bottoms of the sections so the aspen chip "spillage" was lessened a considerable amount but it is still borderline hilarious the amount of chips that are everywhere. No biggie, but I was reading about people using fleece and have heard great things and horrible things. Have you used it? Thoughts/ideas?
ETA: absorbent material would be like towels? Do most people use towels under the fleece? And do you wash the towels and the fleece together every 5 days (ish) or would you need to wash the towels more often?
I am anal, and have been changing the bedding every 2 days...it is a mess! They are awesome though.

You should never house your guinea pigs in sawdust! And no, fleece lasts so much longer! I'm currently using fleece bedding. There really is nothing horrible about it. You just use two layers of some absorbent material under it, wash it every week, and most of all, it makes your cage beautiful! You must use a 100% polyester type of fleece. It's so convenient and neat.

Oh fleece is wonderful. Guinea pigs cannot really chew it (they rather hard objects like wood blocks), it is re-usable and you can wash it. How much better can that get? It is the best bedding to go with I think.
But there are some other great bedding's out there.
This link should help you out as it also states the bedding's that are harmful:

I have two fleece blankets that were hand made. It works quite well and is A LOT easier to clean up off of. http://www.piggybedspreads.com/?gclid=CNee0OeF8KcC... (were we got ours) They work really well and are machine washable. They don't work until it's washed a few times. Although they can smell after a while it wasn't as bad as the actual bedding. Not as big of a mess either. Hope I helped and best of luck!

Raise the sides and use sawdust. Not only does it smell great, it lasts longer than fleece, and takes longer to smell up. Yes, fleece looks good and is good for the pigs, but unless you want to have to change it every 3-5 days, than use sawdust. I hope I helped.
