What is a " Branch Manager "?

I keep seeing folks who answer tell people to see their branch manager. What is that ? It is something new since I was in and I am curious. Thanks.

That is the person (usually a civilian GS employee or Senior NCO or Officer) who handles assignments for people in that MOS and rank. They are based out of Department of the Army in Alexandria, VA.

Every MOS will have branch manager example -

11B - E4 and below will be one person

    11B - E5s will be another

    11B - E-6s will be another

    etc, etc

That is the person who matches "faces to spaces" as we say. And we have had branch managers since way before I came in 22 years ago. There has always been someone who made assignment decisions.

  • The general manager. Usually means for a bank so the branch manager for a bank would be the boss of that branch of that bank.

His /her job is to assign military members to assignments/units, etc... according to their jobs/MOS/ratings!
