How long do I wait after submitting an online application? ?
Two days ago, I submitted about 8 or 9 online applications for jobs at places like Kmart, Ulta, Staples and CVS.
I was just wondering how long I should wait until I hear back?
This is my first time applying for jobs and I'm a student so... This process is a little confusing to me.
Any feedback would help.

It is always best to do EVERYTHING FACE TO FACE. Applying on line is ok but then print off an application that you filled out and go in there 2 or 3 days later. Not 4 days, not 5 days, not a week or two or three. Take the application with you and go in when they are not the busiest, which you will know from common sense. Kmart's busiest time is on the weekends, restaurants' busiest times are at meal times, etc
Go in and ask for the manager. Find out the manager's name before going in by calling or sometimes listed on line or when you get there ask the hostess or customer service worker, etc.
When you see the manager coming towards you say "hi, my name is ________ and I filled out an application on line and was wondering if you would consider interviewing me? I brought an application with me just in case you haven't had a chance to look at mine yet".
Keep good eye contact. Dress nice. Be polite.
Yes, you can wait but you know what.....you will wait and wait and wait and wait and wait. Go out there and get what you want. Will you get the first job you go after? Maybe and maybe not but you will get a job and you will get a job much sooner than many other people who wait and never get called. Be assertive. Be confident. Don't be afraid of them saying "NO".
Be sure they know your name. When leaving say "again, my name is _________and I hope to hear from you soon. Would it be ok to check back with you in a few weeks ?(if they aren't hiring now). Thank you Mr./Mrs____________".
Don't listen to people who say you should wait. That's why they don't get called for months. Always in person if possible. Make sure they remember you. Something has to set you apart from all of the other applicants. What will that be? Are you going to "HOPE" they notice the experience on your application? There's a lot of people out there with experience. The squeeky wheel gets greased. Blow your own horn. And all that other good stuff.

Some companies will acknowledge your application immediately. Others will take a few days and then reply. Some won't even reply at all depending on how many applicants they've had! You could follow up your application in about a week or so with an email or call to their HR dept if they still haven't replied and you're keen to work with them. Good luck!

With any job it can really vary. Sometimes you'll hear something that day, sometimes it'll be 3 weeks.
With retail jobs, I actually think that going online isn't the best way to go about it. Go to the stores. Some won't be hiring and some well. Fill out an application in the store. You'll have a much better chance to make an impression and be remembered.

Most jobs-I should say all jobs won't call you back.Unless they want to interview you. It's just how it is sadly. Most jobs will take about a week especially in this tough economy.

You wait and thats it.
You dont ring them or anything, if they want an interview with you they will call. If they dont call, they are not interested.
Ive waited months...
