NEED HELP QUICK!!! PLEASE HELP!!?
So, I have strep throat. I'm at my dads and I don't have any antibiotics. I usually take Penicillin, but I don't have any and I can't get to the doctors so they can give me some, until tomorrow. My dad told me to take these antibiotics he was given for a staff infection. It's called IC Sulfameth/TMP DS Tab. It's not mine and I have no prescription for it and have never taken it before. To me, all signs say "HELL NO" and to wait for tomorrow. But, WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!
@Jason, My father is not very bright. So, yeah. I will.

First off: Never ever take antibiotics without a prescription, you develop super bugs and become resistant to them thus needing stronger antibiotics later to fight an infection that was half treated and returned stronger
Second: Many people are allergic to the particular antibiotic (Sulfa)
Sulfa allergies are common, hence medications containing sulfonamides are prescribed carefully.
Wait till tomorrow and talk with a doctor, you get prescribed antibiotics tailored for you and your symptoms
Now, you are a smart girl and your instinct tells you right, good for you to follow common sense
Hope you are feeling better soon

well first off its a sulfa antibiotic, and if you have never had it before their is a possibility you could be allergic to it. That being said the probability of being allergic is rather low, and the probability of a truly severe reaction is even lower.
Firstly, you shouldn't trust random people, and you shouldn't trust your dads expertise b/c he isn't a doctor or in the medical field. Just call your doctor.
Bactrim (the brand name of your dads med) does cover staph infections very well, but for strep, like you suspect you have, it is pretty hit or miss, it might work and it might not, it really isn't the best thing for a strep throat....
BTW how old are you? I ask because the bactrim DS is a full adult dose and if you are not a full adult you really should not take it. At higher doses then you should get for your weight it can cause all sorts of problems, one of the more common severe issue is the development of kidney failure from the drug crystallizing out in your kidneys as your urine is concentrated.... so yeah...not fun, Best to wait until tomorrow and see your doctor

I'd wait until tomorrow. Bactrim (which is what you have there) has a high incidence of drug allergies. Also, since I assume you wouldn't be taking a full course of them, you could end up with a worse infection or a resistant strain. Last, it's safer to wait to determine if you actually have strep than to self medicate. If it's not strep, you could kill off the normal flora in your body and not damage the bacteria at all. There are lots of things that present with sore throat and if you're having frequent bouts of strep and tonsillitis, it may be worth having them removed.

Wait if you're that paranoid but to be honest they're just antibiotics.

You have a problem if you would rather rely on total unknown faceless strangers than your father.
