As Thanga balu is the present TN Congress leader, he could not get the seat in TN state Elections. But he clearly knows that he could not continue in the post as the present condition in TN is not favourable for Congress. So he wanted to prove his importance in Tamil Nadu by some or other way. The best way is to become a MLA. Being spent so many years in Politics, he is not that much of fool to fill up the nomination form wrongly.

His wife Jayanthi Thangabalu is the Chair person of two Engineering Colleges (Thangavelu and T.J) who doesn't seem to have shown much interest in politics. He used her name and he got the seat.
