Are the Palestinians and the Philistines in the Bible the same people?
The name Palestine and Philistine sounds similar and they live(d) in the same region, so could they be the same people ? Current history says that the ancient Hebrews (who lived in the hill country) hired themselves out as mercenary soldiers to the Philistines, who were the people living in the lowlands. Then at some point, they instead fought the Philistines and took over their cities. This was the foundation of the Hebrew kingdom apparently.

There's probably some genetic inheritance from the Philistines in the Palestinians, but the name was more to do with the area than the people. Genetic surveys have revealed that the Jews and the Arabs in that region, including the Palestinians, are related. Arabic and Hebrew are linguistically related too

Refer to Genesis:
"Genesis Ch 10 V 14: And Pathrusim, and Casluhim(out of whom came Philistim) and Capthorim
Genesis Ch 21 V 32: Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimlechrose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and returned into the land of the Philistines.
Genesis Ch 21 V 34 And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines’ land many days."
Philistia predated Abraham

yes and no. Palestine does derive from philistine, and thus the region is called palestine, but palestinians are descended from a much greater expanse of peoples than simply the philistines.

The answer is no,
Philistines are ancient Aegean people who invaded Israel by boats and occupied few cities in southern part of modern day Israel.
The name Philistines in Hebrew (Plishtim), literally means "Invaders". they came and left in about 1000 b.c.
The land was named later 'Palestine' by the Romans, and the name stuck from the European perspective.
The name was adopted, and was first used in 1964 by groups of Arabs in the area that did not receive any citizenship from surrounding countries. (Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon etc).
Putting politics aside, and the ongoing and hard attempts from all sides to resolve the issues and reach stability, this is how history goes. [=

They are the same stock.... despite the Zionist lobby to deny this. The city of Jerusalem was inhabited by these peoples before the Jews arrived in the so called "chosen land". Philistines / Allophyloi ruled the five city-states of Gaza, and what is now Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron and Gath, from Wadi Gaza in the south to the Yarqon River in the north, but with no fixed border to the east.
