Can you eat meat that's been frozen for a year?

A friend of ours has a quarter cow that's been frozen for a year that we can buy at a good price. Is it a good idea to purchase it? He raises cattle for a living and just could not use all he has frozen.

It depends on how it was frozen. If it was in a "deep freeze", then yeah, it'll be fine. But if it was in the equivalent to your regular kitchen freezer then you might be a little wary. Someone else said to ask for a small sample, and that's a really good idea. Freezer burn will sap the quality of even kobe beef.

I would try asking this in the (other food & drink) section.

I personally wouldn't buy beef that has been frozen for a year. I would buy fresh. I'm sure you won't eat it all at once. So most of it will still have to be frozen. By the time you eat it all some of it will be frozen for close to two years. Its still eatable but not very fresh nor tasty.

    Absolutely it's still good.

    Once frozen, that stops time.

Meat can remain frozen for YEARS.... just cut off the freezer burn and enjoy!

Yes, if it has been stored frozen while fully wrapped in plastic.

Maybe if it is not freezer burnt. It won't hurt you if it is freezer burnt, just won't taste good. Ask to sample some first to see if burnt.

    No.

Unless it was vacuum packed, it will be freezer burned. Toss it
