Why aren't young people identifying themselves as Republic or Democratic anymore?

How does it affect the candidates? It used to be young people would quickly identify themselves as Democratic or Republican but that is not the case anymore. Why?

For the same reason a good many older people aren't; there simply isn't that much difference between the two parties anymore, and neither one seems to give two sh*ts about their "constituents".

I am 21 and live on campus and very few people still do. Personally, I identify as libertarian when asked and have a "Fed Up" sticker on the front of my laptop. We do have the "young" republicans and democrats organizations, but their membership is at an all time low according to people I know that work at RHA.

God knows the professors rhetorically suck off Obama every chance they get, but most of us do not fall for that trap.

You should have been around in the 70's. Not only did they not identify with the 2 major parties, but the majority of under 30's were simply anti government because they believed the government could not be trusted.

More young people voted in 2008 election that in any other election, so young people are identifying themselves.
