What's a really easy programming language/tool I can use on my Ubuntu PC?
So I've got this old notebook PC that I tossed Ubuntu on and I love it, but I want to write some of my own apps to make it do new, geeky things. My only programming experience is early 1980's BASIC:
10 Input A
20 if A>5 Then Goto 100 else 30
30 End
What's a free, easy tool I can use? I'm teachable and reasonably computer proficient, but I want to take it to the next level.

Python seems easier to pickup than most. The goal of python is to make code easy to read.
Bash scripting is also quite useful when you went to call other programs with a bit of logical controls system. (If, for, while)

For any software, initiate up the Synaptic kit manager and in basic terms search for for in spite of you opt for. a lot more convenient than residing house windows.
