Did my windshield wiper motor just go out?!?
Hello I was just washing my 1991 olds 88 royale in my driveway and when i got done i turned the windshield wipers on to clear the remaining water on the glass, in the fast mode and it made 2 quick swipes and then stopped in the middle of the windshield! I checked the fuse under the dash and it was okay and I tried the window washer tab on the multifunction switch and it did nothing. So is there another fuse, circuit breaker, or relay that I should check?? We are supposed to get some rain and snow soon!!!! so any help is appreciated! thanks

Move the wiper by hand back to the resting position , if they move to easy I mean with practicaly no oposition then the mecanism got disconected from the motor , second to verify that turn the wiper on and listen for the motor sound if you can hear the motor running defenetly the wipers mecanism which are bars that cross from each side got disconected, so you need to attach them back to the ball bearing pin, it has a bushing at the end of the bar that enters that pin in the motor, if the bushing is bad , it is a kit that autozone sells but are kind of universal and you may have to modify a litle the hole where the bushing goes to be able to fit the new bushing or in the worse case you may have to nuy the entire bars , now if the motor doesn't work I beleive it has a module that may be bad , but remove the motor and tested with the battery to see if it works outside the vehicle and as for the original question you are talking abot a 20 years old car and yes when they go they just go out , very rare you get signs that they are going to go bad.
