Yes, ghosts will choose a person, place, or thing as s focus for their attention and stay near it. So if he has chosen your aunt or something she owns or inherited as his focus, then he will go wherever she/it goes.

There are reports of individuals having a particular ghost or spirit follow them so this is plausible as well as possible. Some ghosts and spirits can attach themselves to objects, individuals and or families .Some individuals report taking tokens of a visit to a place where the ground has been consecrated and find that they either have very bad luck or there is some type of spirit following them around. Some also have reported that they have purchased an antique that has a ghost attached to it and it follows them home. These objects can and do travel various distances and they as well can carry the attached spirit along with them. It is also reported that when a particular ghost or spirit is attached to an individual or family , they can follow them even when they move. Some families try to escape a particular haunted location only to find a ghost has followed. Not fun Im sure.

Yes. They defiantly can. Ghosts can be attached to an object, place, or person. Depending on what they are attached to they can move with it.

So the possibility that your grandfather is following your aunt to another state after passing away is a definiate possibility.

You seem to already know the answer to this question.

If your grandpa died in Washington and you believe he's currently haunting someone in Illinois, then yes, they can.

No they are usually grounded to the place they died at. They don't move beyond that, so the person who is alive has to do the shifting if they can live with it. Demons are however another subject altogether, they can do what ever the wish.

Spirits are not confined by either the concepts nor obstructions experienced by humans. They are not confined by time, let alone distances. They can find you even if you don't leave a forwarding address.
