Pastors wouldn't really do a thing like this would they?

Discussing unification of world religion in her book titled," The World's Religions",

Huston Smith says,"there are people who want to have their own followers. They would prefer to head their own flock, however small, than be second in command in the largest congregation.

This suggests that if we were to find ourselves with a single religion tomorrow, it is likely there

would be two the next day."

It sorta makes religion a part of show business. Is phony the word I am looking for?

    Yes - and some do

Jer 10:21 For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.

Jer 12:10 Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

Jer 23:1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

Every where in the world has people that like to be in total control, it has nothing to do with religion, but human nature.

There may be a single religion one of these days, but there will still be many that have a relationship with Jesus. A religion cannot give you a relationship with Jesus, that only comes through being born again.

It depends - is it phony to want to share the joy you have for your religion? I don't really call that phony.

Phony is wanting to do it to satisfy your own desires - greed is one of them. Another? The need to feel respected and important. There are plenty of examples of those.

However, I don't think its safe to say that religion is phony. If you find something you are REALLY passionate for, the first thing you want to do is share it with others. A lot of times they start something new because others view things slightly different. And that congregation gathers because they WANT to learn more.

    Not necessarily. Egotistical maybe.

One of the fascinating things about Paul for me is when he's dealing with church politics and internal squabbling. Reminds me that people haven't changed at all. There's something very modern about those parts.

Pastors and other clergymen and church officials are just merely socially sanctioned CULT leaders.

We're all human, and we all have human weaknesses like greed and jealousy and ego and arrogance. Why would you expect religious people to be any different?
