The season usually begins the first week of October. This season started on the seventh. As for trades and such, well, that's always in motion so to say. The best way to keep up with that sort of thing is to visit the NHL website and look under "transactions" for who's moving to which team.

THIS season hasn't ended yet--it's got another week to go. Then there are the playoffs, which end around June in the Stanley Cup Finals. The 2011-2012 season will begin in early October.
And as trading deadline was about six weeks ago, you aren't going to see any more moves until the season is over, and teams typically announce them as they happen.
