Should your BF/GF be automatically considered one of your best friends?

My boyfriend of 8 years thinks that he should. I adore him but I already have a best friend. I've known my best friend for at least 20 years. He's earned that "best friend" title. Any thoughts?

I think not. I've known my SO (significant other, i.e. "bf" to the young folk) for almost 15 years; we may know each other inside & out, but that doesn't make him my "best friend"... :(

It depends on how you truly feel about him and how you guys are with each other.

i think personally, people can have more than one best friends (it's best friend, not favorite friend)

but if it's a relationship that you can see lasting forever, i think it's important that he be your best friend because that's one thing that'll keep the relationship strong and keep it from getting dull; if you guys can have fun like best friends.

I would hope to marry my best friend some day.......... but basically, the answer is no. Couples are either "on" or "off" and when they break up, they're usually not friends ever again

Yes, I highly think so. I think that those are the best type of relationships.
