Will my current credit card's interest rate affect the rate I get on a new card?

That's all I want to know. Yes, my credit score and debt to income ratio are very good. My credit card interest rate is 9.49% Variable, and I'd like to get a different one that's 7.99% Fixed from the same credit union.

Update:

They offer different starting rates for each credit card. My credit has improved since I got the card I currently have.

The rate on one card makes no difference on what rate you get on a different card. What will make the difference is your creditworthiness. Since the credit union determined your creditworthiness justified the higher rate for the existing card, they probably won't give you a better rate on a second card. Why not just ask for a lower rate on the existing account?

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Get your second card from a different bank. You will have a better chance at a lower rate and won't be stuck with future term changes of just one card source.
