What helps me to differentiate is to work on a bit of character development. As cheesy as it sounds, I write questions and answer them as one of my characters would. Sometimes I sketch how I imagine them and make a few tweaks. I also list personality traits. They are surprisingly helpful to look back on when I get stuck :)
