If you had to choose, a larger sink or counter top space?
I am remodeling a very small kitchen on a budget, which means that we have to go with standardized sizes. I have 54" of width space available to fit all the counter top for the whole kitchen and the kitchen sink. My options are either a double sink and 18" of counter (the size of a single drying rack) or a single sink and 24" of counter. Which would you opt for if the decision was yours to make?
Does it change the decision if you have a kitchen table that you can use for preparation space?

You may want to look into getting a larger double sink that has a custom fit cover to go over one of the sinks. I have see the covers in stainless steel and also cutting board material. That way you have the best of both worlds. When you need more counter top space, you just cover one of the sinks. The ones I have seen look pretty nice too.

I would want more counter. I have a single sink an I use a plastic dish pan to wash dishes and rinse them on the side under running water. I don't have much counter now but wish I did for prep area!

Personally I would opt for a single sink but find one a bit larger than the normal ones and one that is deeper than the standard ones. I did this and my sink is large enough to fit a cookie sheet flat in it and really deep. Love it.
