If you had to choose, a larger sink or counter top space?
I am remodeling a very small kitchen on a budget, which means that we have to go with standardized sizes. I have 54" of width space available to fit all the counter top for the whole kitchen and the kitchen sink. My options are either a double sink and 18" of counter (the size of a single drying rack) or a single sink and 24" of counter. Which would you opt for if the decision was yours to make?

5 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoWhere do they sell supplies to make a classic photo album?
I'm wanting to make a classic black photo album for my wedding photos, the kind with the plain black pages that you can use adhesive corner fasteners to slide the pictures into. Here is a link with the look I'm looking for. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID... Does anyone know where to get an acid-free photo book with plain black pages or where to get the mounts? Thanks.
2 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoMoving along the slow wedding helpers?
There are several people involved in our wedding who are leaving details to the last minute, which is causing problems when I try to schedule other things. For instance, it is a month before the wedding, and my fiance's parents still do not know what time the rehearsal dinner will be. I have to know so that I can tell the preacher. Similarly, we have been told that we are definitely doing showers/bachelor/bachelorette evenings, but no one can tell me when. I work two jobs, go to school, and am planning the wedding; I need to know what is coming up so I can plan/take time off. At this point, I am just about ready to say forget it.
How do I nicely ask people to get their acts together without sounding completely ungrateful or pushy?
8 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoAny good websites for head table backdrops for DIY wedding?
I am trying to find a good alternative to lattice or balloons for behind the head table. My two problems:
1) The ceilings are very high in my venue (a second story balcony overlooks the whole room), so attaching things to the ceiling is not practical. We are also not allowed to attach things to the walls (it is a historic building).
2) We have to take everything out of the venue that night after the reception, so preferably not something bulky that will require a big frame.
Our colors are dark purple, primary blue, and silver. Any good site recommendations, preferably with pictures and/or how-to instructions, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
3 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoGood short work to analyze for literature class?
I need to write a literary critique for a college-level literature class, but I am completely stuck about which work to write about. Ideally, it would be something short, like a poem, that is complex enough that I could talk about it for 12-15pgs. I do plan on doing some library research but need a starting point first. Any ideas?
3 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoIdeas for decorating a round/hexagonal church?
Does anyone have any ideas and/or pictures for how to decorate a church that is hexagonal with chairs instead of pews. The church has a very high ceiling with a skylight and several walls of windows, with a wooden railing for under lighting above each window. Please help; any ideas are really appreciated.

I am studying Japanese and need to know how to type characters into a website. These are the best instructions I have been able to find. http://www.autopenhosting.org/unicode/type-Japanes... How do I do the first step of these instructions?
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoCan you translate this Japanese statement?
Does anyone speak Japanese? I am working on my elementary Japanese homework and came across a sentence I am supposed to personalize, but I do not know what it means. It is pronounced "maekawamichikodesu." Can anyone translate this? The online translators I've tried haven't worked. Thanks.
4 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoTan Towels cancer effects?
On HSN, they sell a product called Tan Towels that are supposed to react with the melanin in your skin to give a natural tan for people (like me) who can't tan in the sun very well. Does anyone know if this product can cause skin cancer or other harmful effects? Has anyone ever had an allergic reaction to these? I just got them and want to know all the risks before I try them.
I am VERY fair-skinned (only allowed in a tanning bed for 5min at a time), so please do not recommend that I tan outside. I am also game to hearing about other fake-tan products people like. The best I have found so far is the Olay Touch of Sun lotion.
Thanks for answering!
3 AnswersOther - Skin & Body1 decade agoTiming of wedding? Dancing and beer at an afternoon wedding?
My fiance and I are trying to decide the time of day to get married. Our wedding date is September 12, 2009. We want to get married while there is daylight (our church has beautiful windows). We were originally thinking 4pm with ~5pm reception, but now that we are looking at the cost of food, we are starting to think about just doing appetizers and having a1pm wedding and 2pm reception. If we have the earlier reception, could we still have beer (fiance's major request) and a DJ with dancing (my hope)? When and how should we expect guests to start leaving if we do the earlier time?
We want to keep the wedding and reception close together in time because we live in a small town, and half of the guests will drive half an hour between hotel/house and reception location (unavoidable). The earlier time might mean some guests don't need a hotel.
I have never been to an afternoon wedding, so the more detailed information and timeline, the more it will help me. Thanks for answering!
12 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoShifting an automatic from 2nd to drive while driving?
I have a 1994 Cougar with +161K miles on it, and the transmission is starting to go out. Sometimes it will shift into 2nd gear even though the indicator says it is in drive, but I won't realize it until I am on the highway. In our area, there are not very many places to pull over on the highway due to road construction. My fiance says that I should just shift the car from 2nd to neutral and then to drive without stopping, but I am nervous about shifting while the car is moving. So, is it worse to drive 65mph in 2nd (3-4 thousand rpm) until I find a place to pull over or to shift gears while the car is moving? Does the answer change if sometimes it takes 2-3 tries to get it into the right gear? Thanks.
4 AnswersSafety1 decade agoFinding a bridal gown with straps?
I am getting married in Sept '09 and have just started looking for ideas for my wedding dress. I want a wedding dress with straps wide enough that I can wear a regular strapped bra under it without having to worry about the bra strap showing throughout the night. Here is the only dress I've been able to find that would fit what I'm looking for. http://cgi.ebay.com/EVA-HAYNAL-FORSYTH-8940B-BRIDA...
Some stores will add spaghetti straps or lace sleeves on, but that is not going to cut it. I know that strapless is all the rage, but does anyone know where I can find other dresses with wide straps on the shoulders?
10 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoReception site refuses to serve cake?
We are having a sit-down reception through a venue that requires us to use their catering, where the venue provides both the food and the servers. Recently we learned that they will not work with us on the cake. None of their employees will cut it, we cannot use their plates or silverware for the cake, and their servers will not deliver the cake to guests.
Any ideas about how to work around this? My fiance is in love with the venue, so changing it is a last resort. Thanks for all your help.
18 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoUsing a Groomsman's Gift after the Divorce?
What are the rules about using a gift you received as a bridesmaid or groomsman after the married couple has gotten a divorce? Can you still use it? My fiance received an engraved glass for being in a friend's wedding, and he can't remember which of the four engraved glasses came from his friend that is now getting a divorce. Should we pitch all four (at the risk of hurting one of the other three) or just continue to use it and hope the divorcing friend doesn't notice. FYI: if it matters, the friend was married for less than 1yr.
5 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoHow do I get my dog to stop crying in the car?
I have a 3yr old Border Collie/Rottweiler mix who cries every time we take her anywhere in the car. She loves to go places and will happily get into and out of the car, but as soon as the car starts to move, she starts to cry and whine, not stopping until the car stops (even through an hour-long ride). She has done this since she was a puppy, and the vet told us she would grow out of it, but that hasn't happened, although it has become more of a steady whine than a full-out cry over the years. Other than this, she is a fairly well-behaved dog.
We have tried everything we can think of with minimal success. The only thing that has had any success so far is to run her until she is exhausted before putting her in the car (not so great when you want to take her to do an outdoor activity or have a long drive ahead). Any suggestions??
14 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow do I wear a woman's three-piece business suit? Shirt required?
I recently bought a woman's Liz Claiborne three-piece suit. It came with a pair of trousers, a one-button jacket, and a third piece that I don't know what to do with.
It is a top that fits similar to a scoop-neck blouse, and it has a zipper down the side. It does not have sleeves, and it flares at the hips to create shape. All three pieces are black with a pink pinstripe, so it looks dark with just the three pieces together. Everything I've found online (general info about suits) says that it could be a vest, but I can't find my suit or anything like it displayed on a model anywhere online.
When I wear it without a shirt, it does appropriately cover my entire body (nothing risque), but I wouldn't take off the jacket because bare arms are not business appropriate. I could see wearing it with a button-front shirt under it without the jacket as cute office-appropriate wear.
So, should I wear a button-front shirt under the third piece when wearing the jacket?
