Tan Towels cancer effects?

On HSN, they sell a product called Tan Towels that are supposed to react with the melanin in your skin to give a natural tan for people (like me) who can't tan in the sun very well. Does anyone know if this product can cause skin cancer or other harmful effects? Has anyone ever had an allergic reaction to these? I just got them and want to know all the risks before I try them.

I am VERY fair-skinned (only allowed in a tanning bed for 5min at a time), so please do not recommend that I tan outside. I am also game to hearing about other fake-tan products people like. The best I have found so far is the Olay Touch of Sun lotion.

Thanks for answering!

I don't think there are any negative effects related to tan towels. Basically its a convienient self tanner. It starts out clear and then develops over time but since you're so fair it might turn orange on you. I would suggest Clinique Touch of Sun Body Lotion. It has a slight color so you can see where it's going and if you got the whole area covered and then develops into a nice, natural looking tan. It's also buildable so if you use it daily as your body moisturizer you'll get a deeper tan. I like it because it doesnt collect around my knees and ankles and it doesnt turn orange. It looks really natural. I've tried alot...including tan towels....and I liked this one the best...especially since I'm fair complected....
