How do I explain to my wife that I gambled away our life savings last night?

She is still not over the fact that I cheated on her with my secretary and got her pregnant. I have no idea how to tell her that I've now gambled away our life savings, all $500,000 of it, and it's going to take more than roses this time.

Please help!

Update:

It's so nice of you guys to say I'm lying and call me a troll. I have a serious problem here.

Update 2:

I'm already paying alimony to one ex-wife, and I don't need another. The point was not to leave, but rather to fix the situation.

You might want to get a Home Equity Loan so you can play the horses from around the world. It wont be hard to make up 500k if you can hit a few tri fectas

It would be interesting to try to make a case analogous to the case of bars serving too much alcohol to drunk people. It's a third-party liability thing, though, the drunk can't sue the bar if he crashes his own car after drinking too much, but if you hit another person, they can sometimes sue the bar. Similarly, if a casino allows an individual is gambling excessively and the casino doesn't make sure they are capable of doing it (which could be evidenced by their ability to pay for an expensive room in advance, for example, which is the action of a wealthy high roller having some fun with an adrenaline rush, not an addict, or, with the lack of other reasonable evidence, by a credit check), perhaps their creditors could sue the casino. So if you gamble away your money, then you get a loan advance on your paycheck and gamble that away, mortgage your house and gamble that money, for example, and then can't pay back the mortgage, the bank could sue the casino. It shouldn't be easy to win such a suit, it should be very difficult requiring that the bank establish, perhaps, clear and convincing evidence that the casino knew or recklessly disregarded the behavior it knows to be indicative of a gambling addict losing money they don't have. That would also protect small casinos who don't have the sophisticated systems to notice such things, though illegal casinos should, perhaps, be liable on an easier standard, just as a means of cracking down on them. This might be doable as common law (judge-made law) with a convincing enough case before the right judge, but judges are typically unwilling to take steps that large on their own. It would probably take legislation at the State level creating such a cause of action.

Make sure your wearing protective head gear and a jock strap and sit her down, because if she doesn't beat the crap out of you she's going to faint. Just tell her. There is no way to make this sound less horrifying than it is. And don't make excuses or try to justify what you did, that's just going to send her over the edge, if she hasn't gone already, and want to murder you.

Be prepared for her to walk out that door and leave you. For God's sake don't chase after her.

    Or

If she kicks you out, make sure you have a bag packed and waiting in your car.

She should have divorced you when you cheated and knocked up some other woman. At least she still would have had her half of the savings. She's a fool if she stays with you and allows you to cause her more pain.

    WTF is wrong with you?

And the reason you want to stay is because you don't need another ex-wife? You don't love her. Be a F-ing man and let her go. It not even up to you. If she wants a divorce she'll get one and there's nothing you can do about it.

And don't even think about pulling a Scott Peterson. They will find you.

I don't even know where to start....I have lost more than a million dollars on investments and contracts. We've moved from a 10K square foot house that we owned to a duplex that we rented. She has stayed through it all - and helped me get it back - my wife is a keeper.

But - if I had actually gambled it away? I doubt she would have been as understanding. Whatever you do - make sure there aren't any weapons nearby when you tell her.

If that is true, you might be the one getting roses this time.......on top of your casket. But, if you had a half million dollars stashed away as savings, surely you have a lot of other assets (homes, other investments, etc.) she could get her hands on, so she might find it more satisfying to divorce you and take as much of it as she can.

That being said, IF this were a true situation, I doubt the first thing you would do the night after was to get on YA and ask what to do.

I would vote troll...however, I've had people call me a troll when I've posted a serious question. The reason is because the question can appear so stupid that it couldn't be serious.

However, assuming that you are serious. He goes:

If your wife is dumb as a box of rocks...then come home make love to her like you've never made love to her before...and afterwards when you a cuddling and holding her tight...tell her. Hold on tight because if she gets lose she'll kill you.

If your wife has half a brain she will leave.

Can I have 10 points please?

First, write a detailed note. Second, pack all of your things and find somewhere else to lay your head - FOREVER. Third, give her the note and leave. Don't ever return. Never expect to be invited back. If she does invite you back, respectfully decline. Especially if it's for dinner so that you can "talk." She will probably poison you. Lastly, SEEK HELP.

Just tell her and be prepared for her to leave you.

She should have left when you cheated.
