Typically you have a pretrial where the Judge and or Guardian Ad Litem try to broker a temporary order to see if everyone can live with that. For us, we filed in March, got into court in July, got sent back fro DNA testing, another court date in August where we got a temporary order giving my husband secondary custody and official visitation and then in February we filed for a final hearing because the temp order wasn't working for us, and in April we did mediation, and in June he got custody of his son and the mom got secondary. The final order is the one written in stone.
