  • What is the proper way to run for speed? (Baseball)?

My son (12) is a baseball player, and he runs SO differently than every other child. I watched 60 kids run a timed 90 feet this weekend, most had medium to long strides and their legs moved fairly quickly. My son has a short little stride, not much of a stride at all, I might call it a studder step and his legs move up and down SO fast, but doesn't your momentum stop each time your foot hits the ground? I am not exaggerating that his foot hit the ground 2-3 times more than every other child there. He ran the 90 feet at 4.50 seconds, while the fastest child ran 3.63 seconds. My son wasn't the slowest, but his run looked SO very different than everyone else s.

  • At what age does baseball become serious, and how/can you help your kid?

My son plays 12u Travel Baseball, he's been on a travel ball team for 4 years. Before people even question...neither I nor his father ever played baseball, we know nothing about it (other than what we have seen on TV), we aren't coaches, and we have told our son that anytime he wants to try Lacrosse or Chess or whatever we will support him in any sport he wants to play, so this isn't us pushing him.

Onto the question....Our son has informed us that he is going to be drafted by the Braves...lol..while this was adorable at age 6 he hasn't let up....so now we have to ask ourselves what can we do to help? If he wanted to be an actor I would of course take him to local theater, or to open calls or whatever, but what do you do for baseball?

We have been told that there is a "great divide" coming up. There is going to be a time when it is pretty much clear who has the talent/drive/body type....etc to move on in the sport and others will just fade away. What hasn't been made clear is when does this"line" come about? Is there anything we can do to help as parents....or is this all about his talent and we need to just sit back and make sure he has clothes that fit and drive him all over the place to make games and practices?

If we can help him we want to....but we have no clue what to do....oh by the way, he is in 7th grade and the high school team is a 6A team in GA...if that matters...to be honest still not sure what that means other than it's a big school.

    Thanks!!!

  • Best strategy for buying a foreclosure..according to the bank or experience.?

The location of the house is wonderful for my family, the street looks straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting, and it is big enough for my family’s needs now and in the future….but it’s a foreclosure.

Everything on that street is picture perfect, except the house for sale. The siding looks like compressed particle board and it’s puffy, and rotted through in several places, the roof appears to have major issues and visible water damage inside the attic, the inside was trashed by previous people, holes in walls, kitchen hardware gone, not a showerhead or lighting fixture in the house, paint puddles on the rugs, they even took the backsplash off the wall! Okay you get the picture, it’s a dump…but don’t they say location is everything?

So, in 2002 the house sold in foreclosure for 144K, in 2008 the house sold in foreclosure for 144K, in 2012 the house was “deed taken in lieu of foreclosure” and it’s now 2014 and the house is listed for 139K. The house is one of the biggest on the block, but the comps for the neighborhood show the houses go for 120-170K.

So, my question…does the bank that holds the property actually understand that the house has gone through 3 foreclosures and that it is in REALLY rough shape, or do they honestly think they will get close to the 139K they are asking? Also, what is the best way to put an offer in for this house? I was thinking I could do a low offer like 75K and write a letter letting them know that the house is in rough shape and I wasn’t looking to make a buck on them, just that no one will offer 140 and then have to put 70K worth of work into the house, it will be priced out of the neighborhood…and I REALLY love that neighborhood and would be happy to pay the 75K and then put in 70K of work for a decent house, but how do you say all that?

    So advice?

  • Piece of equipment used to link iPad and TV?

  • When is metabolism a medical issue, not a lifestyle choice?

I have been overweight my entire life, literally for as long as I can remember, by at least 75-100 pounds my entire adult life. No amount of moderate exercise, water, or calorie counting has ever made more than a 20 pound difference. By the way I qualify moderate exercise as 30-60 minutes 5 times a week.

Combine that with the fact that my bowel movements have never been more than once a week, and sometimes not even that. I have tried various fiber products, increased water intake, and rufage consumption, none of it changed anything. Small to medium amounts of food go in and barely anything comes out.

I don't over eat. I have seen shows on TV like the biggest looser where it shows the people ordering 5 burgers and a diet coke, that's not me.

I just turned 37 and I'm gaining weight, what little metabolism I have seems to be disappearing and I am already 300 pounds. I have spoken to my dr and he told me to basically drink even more water, more fiber pills, laxative and checked my blood work for thyroid issues that weren't there.

I know the American population is really into easy fixes with a pill, but isn't this medical not lifestyle? Or am I missing something?

  • How to keep from chafing with a cup on in baseball?

My son is a catcher in Georgia...so very hot, very humid, and he is starting to chafe badly! Some people have said use baby powder, others have said anti-monkey butt, others swear by a product called body glide that looks like a deodorant stick...

So....fellas how do YOU keep your parts from chafing with a cup on?

P.S. He does travel ball so he can play 2-4 games a day!

  • Is there anything special you need to do with the rent money when renting a home?

My dad recently passed and he left me his house, it was all paid for. I have a family friend who wants to rent it from me...and that is fine. I plan on doing the whole rental agreement thing and everything with him...but as I did my taxes this weekend I saw a bunch of questions about rental property and it occurred to me that maybe there is more to this than accepting a check every month and make sure the house tax is paid.

Am I suppose to have like a separate account or something for the rent? Will that be added as income for me at tax time? What special things does someone have to do when they are renting a house?

  • Are noses a good indicator of blood pressure issues?

For the last two days I have been under a very stressful work situation where people are truly being stupid and irritating the heck out of me. It typically takes a lot to make me even raise my voice, might happen twice a year, so it is rare.

Anyway after I get upset lately I notice this feeling in my nose...sort of burning, kind of like the after effects of getting water up your nose, mostly in my nostrils only. It got me wondering if this might be an indicator of a blood pressure problem. I have never had BP issues, but i am over weight, no history of blood pressure or heart issues.

  • When you inherit an IRA how does it usually arrive..in tact or liquidated?

I am an only child, no one is contesting the will, and my dad passed last week. Everything seems to be going fine with executing the will....except the IRA. The lawyer is having a glitch in the fact that a retirement fund of a 72 year old is being handed down to a 35 year old....to put it in his words..."The Government is going to want those taxes now".

So, what typically happens? Does the IRA have to be totally cashed out to be inherited? And if so do they use his retired tax bracket or mine?

Any information would be greatly appreciated...I am planning on hiring a professional finance person to sort through this mess, but first I would need to get the mess and I just want to be as informed as I can be.

  • How long can someone live with congestive heart failure, are we at the end?

My dad is pretty sick, he has extreme emphysema, COPD, only using 28% of his lung capacity, and stage IV lung cancer...I have to say he looked like he was holding his own until a couple of weeks ago. His lungs got fluid in there, we had a liter pulled out of each side, and he felt a bit better...then this week he began to get worse and worse, barely able to breath, very swollen legs, and we brought him in for an X-ray and the pulminologist said the fluid was back a bit but not enough to cause this level of difficulty, and he suspects congestive heart failure.

My dad is very weak, very tired, barely able to eat and now he gets out of breath with 3 steps and it takes a couple minutes for him to breath normally. He of COURSE still wants his chemo this week...but I honestly don't know how we would get him out of the house in this state.

Is this what it is like at the end of congestive heart failure?

  • Why is swelling bad in a chemo patient?

My dad has been on chemo for 11 months, stage IV lung cancer, and now he has complications due to his emphysema. His ankles are REALLY swollen, the Dr. said that it is kind of normal but keeps track of it once a week when we see him, and one week even gave him water pills to reduce the swelling, but only 3 because dad's kidneys are kind of out of whack and the Dr. didn't want to stress them too much.

Okay, I get that, but now his ankles are bigger than a gatorade bottle and I BEGGED dad to put up his legs last night and he said no....he said they didn't hurt so why should he....I had no response other than to say "Well it can't be GOOD for them!"

So...why is extreme swelling in the ankle and feet area bad in a chemo patient...and I should note that today his upper lip is REALLY swollen, like he got into a boxing match, and 2 weeks ago he had a liter of fluid removed from each lung.

  • My dad is dying...am I suppose to have an emotional plan for after?

My dad is very ill with lung cancer, he is likely near the end. My friend asked me if I have a game plan on what to do and an emotional plan on how to cope......I have no idea what she is talking about. Do people have plans like that?

As far as I know the only "plan" I have made is that he wants to be cremated, and my aunt will have to declare herself at the court house as executor before she leaves the state. I kind of just thought I would muddle through his passing as best I could...is there suppose to be a plan?

I am not religious, I am an only child, and my mom and dad have been divorced for 25 years, but she is helping care for him in his time of need...which I think is really nice...I guess my point is there isn't really anyone to share the grieving with other than his sister...am I suppose to have a plan?

  • How much fluid is too much for a pleural effusion (water in the lung)?

My dad is a very sick man, and I get that he is terminal, he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer 11 months ago, and before that he had advanced emphasyma.

He has had extreme shortness of breath lately and on Tuesday they pulled out 1.2 Liters of fluid from his one lung, today they pulled out 1.75 Liters from his other lung.

This sounds REALLY bad...is it REALLY bad or is this just par for the course?

  • Fluid drained from lung...it was reddish brown and thick, does that indicate anything?

My dad is pretty sick, stage IV lung cancer, advanced COPD...etc...his newest symptom is shortness of breath, more so than usual, and so the doctors decided to drain some fluid from his lungs in the hopes he would breath a bit better.

They did one lung yesterday and pulled 1.2 Liters of fluid out of his right lung. He said the fluid looked like reddish brown mud....this surprised me as I expected him to say clear to yellowy.

Is reddish brown mud fluid indicative of anything in particular?

  • When will a Doctor no longer offer Chemo?

My dad was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer 11 months ago. He has been on 2 different chemo's, and is scheduled to take another one today.

To recap, he has tolerated chemo pretty well, no throwing up or weird side affects, other than he always feels feel and doesn't eat much.

2 weeks ago Tuesday he developed a nasty cough, I took him to a PCP and he got antibiotics, and a chest X-ray...etc, it was deemed he had a bad sinus infection...I took him back the following Tuesday because the cough was worse, and he was referred to a pulminologist, that Friday he saw his oncologists PA (he was on vacation) and she refused to start the next round of chemo because dad was coughing really bad, and she was worried about a clot in the lung and ordered an immediate CT...no clot, but lots of fluid in both lobes and now around his heart. Saw the pulminologist on Monday he ordered home oxygen 24/7, and gave dad a bunch of nebulizer drugs to improve lung function, which he tested to be at 28%, and told dad he would see him in a month.

Now we are going to the oncologist today and I have been wondering if chemo is even a good option any more. I mean he still has a wicked cough, he is on all this medicine and oxygen, he gets out of breath even sitting still and talking!

When is chemo no longer offered? At what point will a Dr say....I just don't think it is a good idea any more....because dad has made it crystal clear that IF the dr. is offering it he wants to take it.

  • What are the ramifications of the lung tumor pushing on the pulmonary artery?

I can't be at the Doctor appointment with my dad, he has Stage IV lung Cancer. He has had a LOT of trouble breathing lately and when they did a CT the PA said it looked like the main tumor mass was pushing against the pulmonary artery...

But what does that mean? Has anyone been through this? My mom and dad tend to hide bad news from me...even though I am 35, so I just wanted someone elses take what this MIGHT mean. I know you are obscure people on the internet, but has anyone been through this, what was the outcome?

  • Need a book, a love story, a hot love story but not overly Erotic, just GOOD!?

I did enjoy the story of 50 shades although I was blushing in several parts.

I enjoyed Beautiful Disaster....not Erotic, but exactly the type of story I like.

I enjoyed Discovery of Witches...very nice love story.

I am looking for my next book. I have a problem though, it HAS to be on audible.com. I have a wicked long commute and I can't actually read during it but I can listen to an audio book.

People have suggested Gabriel's Inferno and the sequel, but Audible doesn't have it.

People have suggested Thoughtless, Effortless, Flat out Love.....grrr...audible doesn't have them.

    PLEASE, give me SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm having a hard time supporting my dad's wish to continue with the chemo...how do I get over this?

I know this is not MY choice, I know that this is not MY Stage IV advanced Lung cancer, but I don't understand!

My dad had advanced emphysema before he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer Stage IV 11 months ago, and he is 72, and he wasn't in the best health, and he didn't have the best diet, and of course he is a man...all of these things mean he is in the bottom of the percentages on having a sustained recovery possibility.

I accept that he is dying....and he has seemed to accept it as much as anyone can. So WHY is he continuing with Chemo? He can't move around much anymore, he gets out of breath even from talking, he can barely eat, he has horrible trouble sleeping so we have him on a sleeping pill...and he has this horrible cough that makes him also feel like he wants to throw up. So WHY is he still doing Chemo?

The Dr. flat out told him this chemo only has an 11 % success rate, and he likely won't be in the 11%. So WHY does he keep pumping this poison into his body? What, so he can have another 2 months of misery rather than 1 month of easily fading away?

    WHY?

  • What is an A-typical progression for Stage IV non small cell Lung cancer?

I know that every cancer is unique just like every person is unique, but are there any universal things anyone can say about this disease?

I am walking on egg shells....My father was diagnosed 11 months ago, and every time he coughs, or has a shortness of breath, or says he feels tired I panic that THIS might be the beginning of the end.

I am a scientist, I live in the world of black and white and when you add 2 things together you get one thing...the SAME thing every time....this not knowing if...when...what...is driving me insane. Is it like this for everyone?

Doesn't anyone have any pattern on what typically happens with this disease? I'm not looking for guarantees, I'm just looking for a possible pattern...something to tell me where we are at with this...I'm really not good without a plan, and I am looking for variables everywhere to take into account to form a pattern, and I can't seem to get one going.

What is a typical progression on this disease?
