How much fluid is too much for a pleural effusion (water in the lung)?

My dad is a very sick man, and I get that he is terminal, he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer 11 months ago, and before that he had advanced emphasyma.

He has had extreme shortness of breath lately and on Tuesday they pulled out 1.2 Liters of fluid from his one lung, today they pulled out 1.75 Liters from his other lung.

This sounds REALLY bad...is it REALLY bad or is this just par for the course?

That IS a lot of fluid for the lungs. I'm betting that he's breathing better now.

The fluid is likely caused by the cancer. It may be that he'll need fluid pulled off intermittently for the rest of his life.

    Best of luck.
