Question for: atheists and theists.?

Just over a week ago, I answered a question posted by an atheist based on his view that the Old and New Testaments in the Bible contradict each other. Because he admitted that he couldn't be bothered to read the Bible, my answer gave examples of how inter-twined the two Testaments are, and encouraged him to read it for himself. He responed, "You have inspired me to start reading the Bible." Now, that's what I call a good result from engaging respectfully with an atheist!

He may read the Bible and still concude that the two Testaments are contradictory. I cannot convert anybody but I do believe the Bible is like a two-edged sword in discerning our thoughts and intentions - it's far more mighty than the literal sword! But as long as he gives serious consideration to it, fair enough. This is not about intellectual superiority; it's about listening to serious objections and offering a respectful answer.

It doesn't get anybody anywhere. I still think Monty Pythons Flying Circus had the right idea of how to decide if God is real. (the wrestling epilogue). Instead of arguing they just have a wrestling match to decide. That probably wouldn't be the best way to decide but it would be faster.

It isn't a waste of time. Theism & religionism are in the process of being overthrown & we atheists are doing our bit.
