I have seen many people crying while chanting Lord's name...?

what does that signify ? is it also an emotional weakness... or something higher in spirituality ?

Higher in Spirituality, understanding the VIRAHA and crying for it.

It is an emotional outpouring. Physiologically it happens when a connection is made between the brain and the tear duct. Some hormones are released which reduces stress. Those who say tears are a sign of weakness do not understand crying at all. The strongest champions cry when they win a championship for the first time or when they bid farewell to their sport or after they perform for the last time.

  • hmmm I think by both reasons people may cry. Some people will openly express themselves to god and getting emotional from their situations in life. They will also show happy when their situations got right. Some people will always cry whenever they prays to god due to their higher level of bhakti. And i think all cries are of emotional weakness and its the human nature.

People cry in two instances. When one is extremely sad and crestfallen and is not able to control oneself. The other time one cries, cherishing something after a long struggle. While the first one is definitely a response to the weakness or inability to face that misfortune. The second one is a celebration to that ecstatic joy of self-satisfaction.

The third type of crying is when one is drenched in the ocean of spiritual love. When one expresses ones heartfelt gratitude to that supreme being for allowing one to be in constant connection with him. These is not what we mean by "crying" in ordinary sense. This is love, gratitude, self-understanding, a total rediscovery of one-self. Bathed in that super-consciousness, one cries in the joy of living. For being a part of that wonderful system, where everything is controlled by the benevolent master to the logical end. One cries in self-satisfaction, self-fulfilment and one cries for the liberation of others. Through these pure flowering teardrops one worships SELF and GOD.

Sometimes people can be in an intimate place with God, feel his touch, or just be touched in an emotional way by him that they cry. Others might dance, sing, whatever. When you truely experiance the touch of God whether it's hearing his voice, feeling his presence, being convicted by the Holy Spirit you will respond in some way.

It is not an emotional weakness..it is an emotional disturbance experienced with higher stages of spirituality.

Well, Sir in the spiritual journey a higher stage comes, when in loving devotional worship, the devotee feels extreme missing of Lord God, in this advance stage one may cry in a perpetual way. This is the state of वैराग्य or DETACHMENT.

They who have silk within and rags without are good in this world.

They conceive love for God and contemplate beholding Him.

In Lord's love they laugh, in Lord's love they weep and keep silent too.

They care not for anything except their True spouse.

Sitting at the road, leading to Lord's door, they beg for food, and when He gives, they eat then.

    {{{Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Raag Aasaa 473}}}

But Sir, one is doing drama, a hypocrisy show or it is real, this is best known either to so called devotee or to the supreme Lord God, since this stage can not easily be attained.

Seems like a weakness to me. I never really liked churches that throw their hands up in the air and scream like psycho lunatics. I prefer quiet contemplation. By myself. Without anyone bothering me.

They are experiencing something very profound, and their bodies are simply expressing it. Crying is a release, so they are releasing or surrendering to God. Either that, or their faking it to appear to be surrendering to God for whatever reason...
