    just do some cross-multiplying. so the problem is 5 / 1 = 1.5x / 100 - x

    so you would then cross-multiply to get 5 ( 100 - x ) = 1.5x .

    distribute the 5 to the 100 and to the negative x to get

    500 - 5x = 1.5x

    add 5x to each side, so that you have

    500 = 6.5x

    divide by 6.5 on each side to get x on its own,

    500 / 6.5 = x

    so x = approximately 76. 923 , or about 76.9 , or about 77
