How do you pronounce the 家 character in Japanese?
Basically, I know that "uchi" and "ie" can be used to say house/home. I've seen 'uchi' written as 内, but can 家 be pronounced as "uchi" too? Or is it always "ie"? Or can it be both?
The term I want to construct is 'housecat', which would be 家の猫. So do I say this as "uchi-no neko" or "ie-no neko", or can I say either? Could I write 内の猫 or does 内 mean 'inside', not 'house'? Mouthful of a question, I know. Thanks!

家 can be read as:
ka, ke, ie, ya, uchi
While housecat can be 家猫(ieneko), 内猫(uchineko), or 飼い猫(kaineko), the last one is most common.
The both uchi-no neko and ie-no neko are good for 家の猫/内の猫.
内 literally stands for inside can also means house in certain context.

the character 家 can be read either "ie" and "uchi." Probably you know this that Japanese-Chinese characters have commonly two or three or more ways to read, so it may be hard for Japanese learners to figure out the correct way to read it.
by the way the pronunciation of uchi of both 家 and å are exactly the same, all we can do to figure out in terms of oral conversation is to learn from the context.
To answer your question, it is kind of awkward to use å ã®ç«. We never use that sentence. You can say and write in 家ã®ç«, and Japanese usually read it as ie no neko.
